I had no expectations or any idea of what Hawai’i would be like before I arrived 10 years ago. I didn’t even research it, so when I set foot in Kailua, Oahu, I immediately felt a slight sensation of being trapped. The vertical mountain wall that divides the island made the land seem even smaller. It wasn’t long before I noticed the distinctive fast changing landscapes, the microclimates & complex ecosystem, and I immersed myself completely in each unique experience with the land. The more I explore, the harder it is to fathom how just a few islands out of thousands & thousands in the Pacific can conceal so many natural treasures: the most active volcano in the world, the tallest ocean cliff in the world, the tallest mountain in the world measure from base to submit, lots of tropical rainforests, waterfalls, valleys, ridges, a canyon… and the Mars-like volcanic desert I had the opportunity to experience on this day. I wonder about other islands, about the ocean, about space... One life is way too short to explore and understand this universe.
