Anyone who has been training for a while knows muscle growth is a slow process and that it takes years to build a very muscular physique. So the idea that recreational strength training will make women look "bulky" in a matter of months is quite ridiculous. .⠀

Contrary to commonly voiced concern, lifting heavy weights can actually help you achieve the "toned" look many are looking for by slightly increasing muscle size in the right places and helping you lose overall body fat through greater activity levels [1, 2]. .⠀

There is also no need to worry about any negative health effects caused by lifting heavy weights, as current evidence shows strength training with proper form at least 2x per week greatly benefits the physical and mental health of adults [3-5]. .⠀

You are going to the gym religiously, sticking to the nutrition plan right to the T. You are drinking all the water, taking all the supplements, etc., but for some reason, your progress has come to a dead stop. You have officially hit a plateau. 😩⠀

✔️Try one these 4 training techniques to break out of your plateau and get back to making gains:⠀
.⠀
✅ Drop Sets - great for muscle building, strength improvement and a little cardiovascular benefit.  A drop set is where you complete a set of 10-12 reps to failure, quickly reducing the weight used and doing another 8-10 reps to failure and then doing that one last time for 6-8 reps to failure again.⠀
.⠀
✅ Rest/Pause - is another good one that will help with strength and muscle building.  Do a heavy set that brings you to complete failure at 10 reps.  Once you hit failure again, rack the weight and count to 10 (no more - no less). Then pick up the weight again and go to 100% failure again.  Do 3-4 sets of this.⠀

✅ Super Sets - is for muscle building and is also great for cardiovascular improvement. Supersets is taking two exercises and doing them back to back without rest. They can be for the same muscle group, like flat barbell bench press and flat dumbbell flyes, or they can be for opposing muscle groups, like barbell curls for biceps and skull crushers for triceps.⠀
.⠀
✅ Giant Sets - are for primarily cardiovascular benefits and muscular endurance improvement. They are supersets only much larger and usually used for the same muscle group.  Instead of alternating 2 exercises like you do on a superset, you will alternate 5-6 exercises and then rest before doing the giant super set again.⠀
.⠀
Although these are great for breaking through plateaus, you might also need to change up your whole routine.  Add extra cardio for fat loss or try changing your training days.  It's all about changing your routine and not allowing your body to adapt to the workout regimen.⠀

‼️ Whatever you do, do not give up because that is the 100% sure fire way that you will never make progress again.⠀

🍸I used to think that I could get away with drinking and partying a couple days a week on the weekend.  I learned that was basically I'm undoing most of the hard work I did that week. Don't get me wrong. If you have something to celebrate, go celebrate, but if you're drinking because that's what you do on the weekend, your physique will never change.⠀⠀

🍕If there is food that you love, You need to find a way to incorporate them and not eliminate them from your life. It's a matter of balance not restriction 🍔⠀⠀

👀One of the biggest mistakes everybody makes is thinking that the scale holds weight. (pun intended) Remember, muscle is more dense and weighs more than fat.⠀⠀

Try to sip on water throughout the day, rather than just downing pints at a time (I need to get more into that habit) - it's better for you: otherwise, your body tries to flush the amount downed ASAP and your cells don't get what they really need. 3: STRESS! And not just mental stress- physical, too. You gotta take rest days, and breaks from dieting. And work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
