The last time I was in Sri Lanka, I was shown around the Internally Displaced People refugee camps. There was a village elder minding his own business hammering away at a wooden base building a fence. With the little Tamil that I spoke, I asked him if he wouldn’t mind sharing his personal experiences about the final war in 2010 (the Sri Lankan government went on a ‘win at all cost’ offensive against the Tamil Tigers resulting in the deaths of countless civilians) and asked if he was directly affected by the conflict himself.
He told me that in the very spot that we were conversing, a ‘shell’ attack blew his eldest son into unrecognisable bits of flesh a metre from him. Two weeks later, his wife and youngest son disappeared never to be found again.
I couldn’t help but be rage filled and desperately strained to keep from crying in front of him. I managed one last string of questioning. ‘Doesn’t it make you mad? Don’t you feel like you want to do something about it?’ He looked at me through his weathered wrinkles with a glint in his eye and the most genuine of smiles and said, ‘I have cried all the tears I could possibly cry. Anger doesn’t solve anything. I just want to spend the rest of my days being kind and help where I can. To me, that’s enough’. Ignorance is one feature never afforded to an IMMIGRANT. We never take for granted the privilege of living in a safe and beautiful community.
We will never be able to fathom the kinds of suffering they have endured. These are the calibre of humans we are potentially turning away and imprisoning in Manus and Nauru. And to add insult to injury, we’re about to let them off into a community where their lives will be once again put in harms way.
What good is it to live in the most liveable country in the world if we don’t have the decency to open our doors and take in those who are needing our help? Australia is a young country. Our culture is still forming, and those ideologues who are so desperate to preserve the Australian way are intrinsically aware of the futility of their fickle traditions. Identity is transient and evolves with time. That’s the beauty of our cultural melting pot. #bringthemhere

An Anaesthetist, a Criminologist, a Psychiatrist, an Art Historian and an Actor have a head on collision with themselves. Enlightenment ensued! ‘You are the sum average of the five closest people in your life, so choose wisely’, they said. I misheard. I chose the wisest. Now I spend my days wondering what the hell they’re going on about. Keeps me humble I guess. #friendswithbenefits

I have a theory. In this commercial world, if companies are the new Kingdoms, it’s bosses the new Kings and the worlds in a patriarchal mess, then what if we found Queendoms guided by Queens and watch as the tides of change shift the nature of our lands to a more loving, compassionate and forgiving Paradise? Less wars would be fought because Queens are far better bastions of diplomacy than Kings. Meet Shannon. She is one such Queen. She has single handedly built a castle called Retrosweat. She has married performance with exercise. She’ll blast some nostalgic 80’s tracks and has a Jane Fonda like charisma that’ll make you bounce so happy, you’ll forget that you’re working out. She’s normally based in Sydney but Melbourne has her down for the cup weekend doing a ‘My Little Pony’ themed session on the 8th of November. If we celebrate Queens like her, we could start a Retrolution and win the war against misogyny without having to fire a single weapon. But what do I know? I’m just a delusional FOOL having wet dreams of a Divine Feminine Rising.

Almost eight years ago, that silent voice in my head echoed as a loud siren in the form of anxiety. It had happened to me in the past but this time I simply couldn’t ignore my intuition. Based on a hunch, After ten years a slave, I finally mustered up the courage and walked away from the Corporate world and into the Acting world. My anxiety immediately subsided. Twelve years of education never taught me how to navigate this life by trusting my heart. It hasn’t been easy, in fact it’s been turbulent to say the least. When you pick a passion that isn’t celebrated by conventional societal standards, your ego and your self- worth are constantly at war with each other. Last month we laid to rest a ‘tiny little’ production called ‘Angels in America’. Life has been a little more colourful since I left the office. Okay a lot more. But you try playing a drag queen in the 80’s darling. ‘...Trailing sequence and incense he came into this world, trailing sequence and incense he departed it. And good for him...’

You may not be in possession of blue eyes, white skin, or blonde hair like Elsa my darling nieces but I guarantee you one thing. Brown is beautiful. As are all the colours of the rainbow. Speaking of rainbow... YES! Obviously. #voteyes

Dear men, you know what I learnt yesterday. I learnt that if you want to understand women better, dress up like one and go out into the world. Watch as society reacts and relates to you. From the blatant gawking to the compassionate glances, you recognise the melting of your surroundings and gain perspective through the female gaze. You notice how they are constantly objectified. And all I can say is it has made me more empathetic to their struggle. It may do the same to you. Love you all. #onelove

Latest psychology paper scientifically proves, Trading war stories with heritage listed friendships over a meal helps alleviate social anxieties. Okay there's no such research on the subject, but consider pizza for entree, baked fish with shiitake mushrooms and roasted cauliflower as a main, and a decadent chocolate tart for dessert. Combine that with almost two decades worth of memories and I guarantee you the only thing you'd be calling a psychologist is to deal with the permanent scars caused by the emotional abuse dished out at the dinner table by those you call your closest comrades. Still, beats playing video games. Love you muppets! #masterchef #preston

I'm not saying I'm a surfer. I'm definitely not saying I conquered the ocean. All I'm saying is I got into a seal outfit, and presented myself as a barely floating banquet to the underwater world of #Torquay. And I loved it. #surfing #worldsurfleague

Rapping to the DJ's entire set word for word. Check! Hanging out with the most beautiful ladies. Check! Getting kicked out of the club.. Check! Literally rolling on the floor laughing while eating dim sims at 3 am. Check! Yeah, safe to say we still put the rock in roll. We put the ass in class, and put the gentle in men.
