What are your top tips for huge startup events? Here are mine.
.
Thousands of people will be attending startup festivals next week. We have huge events like SLUSH in Helsinki, GES in Hyderabad and probably some more. Enormous events like these can be quite intimidating and you will never be able to attend or see everything. So how to get ready? .
Here are my top 10 tips:
.
1. Prepare - Familiarize yourself with the agenda and side events to find what is relevant to you
.
2. Set goals - Decide what you want from the event and go after it specifically
.
3. Network BEFORE - Start using hashtags for the event before the event and engage with people on social media. If the event has a matchmaking app start exploring before you get on site.
.
4. Network at the event - Engage with people not only your screen or mobile. Be yourself, be nice and have fun. Don't stress yourself with networking rules, just talk normally to people.
.
5. Network after the event - Follow up on people and try to remember names (hard one, I know)
.
6. Wear nice but comfy clothes - Includes shoes. The days are long and exhausting.
.
7. Stay hydrated and carry snacks in your bag - Going to these events is exhausting, prepare yourself for a marathon
.
8. Party hard the last night - Networking hungover is not fun. Networking with a hungover person is also not fun.
.
9. Take breaks and sleep at night - When you are feeling drained, just take a moment for yourself to recharge and remember to sleep at night (for party hard see tip 8).
.
10. Take a day off - Allow yourself a day off after the event. Trust me, you will feel tired.
.
Do you have any other tips?
