Because I couldn’t fit “Defend DREAMers, Black Lives Matter, Me Too, Raise the Min Wage for a work force that is 2/3 female, End Female Genital Mutilation, protect ALL of our human rights, and Trump has a tiny dick” all on one sign. To my good intentioned ladies who still can’t see the big picture... this isn’t Betty Friedan’s era of feminism. This is so far beyond reproductive rights and raising the glass ceiling. As white women, we can’t overlook the oppression that our sisters of different races, cultures, classes, and sexual orientation experience.
As @kidd.bell put it, “We have to start using our voices and our outrage to protest more than just misogyny. Whether you voted for Trump or not, you benefit from white supremacy on the daily. So ask yourself, what are you doing to actively dismantle it? Do you show up to Black Lives Matter the way you do the Women’s March? Do you defend the rights of immigrants as much as you do your pussy? Do you call out racism with the same fervor that you proclaimed #MeToo ? White women are oppressed, but we are also oppressors. And if we truly want to dismantle the system, we must first hold ourselves accountable.” There are so many damning oppressions that the Womanists and Mujeristas of this world face daily that the white woman does not. To ignore these, is a blatant crime against real and true equality. We can’t stand outside with our signs screaming about Gender Equality without recognizing what all that entails for our sisters of a different race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, etc. So do your homework - find representatives that will fight for our immigrants, fight against police brutality, fight to invest in impoverished neighborhood, education, and end gang violence. Who will fight for our LBGT community. Who will fight for every single woman to no longer face these oppressions. Then get your ass to the Polls and vote. #MarchToThePolls #WomensMarch2018 🏻🏼🏽🏾🏿 #WeHaveToDoBetter - 2 days ago
