Meet Detective Robert Christensen of the Matteson Police Department. A few days ago, he did a small gesture that made such a huge impact. A few days ago, he decided to give me a little more faith in our law enforcement. A few days ago, he made a kid who lost his father 2 weeks ago, believe in the good of policemen.
My nephew has been terrified of policemen, to the point where just the mention of "police," would cause him to cry. But when passing the police station and he asked me if "the police shot his daddy," I knew I needed to change his perception. To my luck, after walking into Chuck E. Cheese just a few minutes later, we happened to run into this officer who didn't even realized what an impact he'd make on this kid.
After I informed him that my nephew was terrified of policemen, he assured him that he had nothing to be afraid of. He even got my nephew to give him a high five. (Hesitant of course lol)
When leaving, I told him about the comment my nephew had made on our way there and after having another cop turn on the squad car lights to that my nephew could see a real one up close, he took my nephew back into Chuck E. Cheese, went behind the prize counter, and filled a bag full of prizes just for him. I was literally fighting back tears. But nothing could compare to when leaving and my nephew said, "TT I like policemen now." Detective Christensen, you will never understand what you did. Thank you for taking the time out to make a difference in his life. Thank you for giving this kid who had unfortunately buried his father the day before a reason to smile. Thank you for being one of the good ones. You may never see this, but I hope you know how much this meant to me, to him! God bless you! ️ - 50 minutes ago
