The "Chicago 054" is the 54th one-of-a-kind piece in Vortic's "Chicago" line of the American Artisan Series. This watch features a water-resistant, titanium 3D printed case and a round, nickel-plated copper alloy crown. The mechanics of the restored 1928 Elgin 315 movement are visible through the Gorilla Glass crystal of the exhibition style, stainless steel back.
The original, blued steel, "diamond" style hands point to an enamel dial. The black, vintage style, serif numerals have a light drop shadow and have a black minute track in the margin.
Originally produced by the Elgin National Watch Company in 1928, this "315" grade movement is in excellent condition. Although this piece was most likely a private label watch, the 315 grade was very popular for Elgin and was made during the peak of their business.
From a Vintage Elgin advertisement: "The watch by which the hour-to-hour progress of this remarkable age is timed. Used by men of action - women of initiative - people who don't stop." This manually wound movement has nickel plated bridges and main plate decorated with elegant damascening, a jeweled gear train (15 jewels), a Mosely nut regulator, and a 3/4-plate bridge design.
