Great post by @jmaxfitness here. It really just comes down to sticking to the basics that have worked forever and avoiding the unique, gimmicky stuff that comes off as core training. 
DUMB EXERCISES VS SMART EXERCISES by @jmaxfitness -
Just because an exercise looks cool or impressive on YouTube, it doesn't mean that you should be doing it too.
-
For example, if you want to look jacked, you need to put as much tension into the muscle as possible to BUILD THE MUSCLE.  If you're standing on a bosu ball doing squats and/or curls, you're not able maximize the tension, and you're wasting your time.
-
You need to stick to the basics because they work. Is it boring? Maybe. Does it work? Yes. In all honest, you know what's more impressive than squatting on a bosu ball? Being able to squat 400lbs, bench press 300lbs, deadlift 500lbs, and row 200lbs.  You'll get more jacked by doing this too.

Squat action tonight post stomach flu/bug. Didn't feel as strong as I wanted tonight considering my all day buffet of Apple sauce, soup and crackers Monday. Managed to get some chicken down and mac and cheese shells today. Anyways 470 for 3x1 and 325 for 3x5 followed by some leg hypertrophy. Your training split is dictated by how many days per week you can train (and how long you've been training).

3 DAYS PER WEEK. If you can only get into the gym 3-days per week, then stick to a full body program. Use big, compound lifts and aim to get stronger in these lifts. This is ideal for busy guys or beginners (full body workouts work for everyone by the way).

4 DAYS PER WEEK. If you can only train 4-days per week, use an upper/lower split. The first half of the week is dedicated to training in the 4-8 rep range. The 2nd half of the week is for training in the 8-15+ rep range. This is an idea split for intermediates.

These days I seem to have a #doublechin whenever I do anything #powerlifting. But today I got a fat #fupa too and it’s powering my #squat PRs! Squat Lateral Shift Fix

The squat is one of my favorite ways to assess someone’s ability to load. I make every lower extremity patient I’m treating perform a squat to assess if they can properly load their hips, knees and ankles. One common compensation is a shift to one side, commonly shifted AWAY from the affected side. For example, if a patient suffered an injury to their right knee, I potentially would expect to see a shift to the left (as shown in the picture).

So what can do to help? I like using a band to help with proper loading. I am pulling my patient TOWARDS the compensating side in order to force a correction to the other side. This patient had left knee surgery so I am pulling her to the right which was the side she tended to shift while squatting. It forces them to push against the band and helps to promote proper loading to eliminate the compensation. @lekhakach

Starting a new program and let me tell you this workout last night kicked my ass!!! Serious amounts of volume last night and I haven't done this many squats in one sitting in a long time. Especially doing heavier weights then usual. I definitely wouldn't have gotten through this without #insaneveinz 💀 and #physchotic 🤡

The glutes are the largest muscle in your body and the prime mover for hip extension. Proper activation brings blood to the muscle (which helps recruit/build more strength and improves neuromuscular communication), and helps mobilize the area, thus, drastically reducing the chance of injury or poor technique (which may ultimately lead to injury)

Try doing 25 seconds internal/external rotation with each leg individually and and with both at the same time. 🔹I use 2 bands, one above the knees and one above the ankles, to ensure my lower leg is stable (thus activating the lower leg muscles for this purpose) and to activate the glutes. 💪🏽💪🏽

Squat Day 🔥 405x2 for 3 sets and then 2 singles. Im proud of myself bc I actually set a rep goal and stuck to it. I normally go in to every squat and deadlift session with a plan to hit a certain weight for reps/sets...I rarely ever stick to it though. This year is to getting stronger. Making a plan and sticking to it

🔥 Do you (WANT) to get in shape?

I'm 100% serious, not joking 
You SAY you want to get in shape, but trust me you don't... If you did, it wouldn't be some after thought but a conscious decision that you make every day

You'd be waking up early to exercise even though you only got 4 hours of sleep because you were stuck at the office all night working on a big project for your company 
OR 
You'd be skipping that happy hour but instead you decide to indulge eat a bunch of crap have 1 too many drinks

If you really wanted a change you would actually make an effort to do.. You would stop making excuses about why your body is "magically" different. 
You would quit lying to yourself and just admit your out of shape probably put on an extra 20-30lbs but you tell yourself its muscle (it's not) 
You would actually exercise instead of getting on a damn treadmill casually walking and say you worked out

You would change your nightly routine to make sure you're getting enough sleep to recover and wake up feeling refreshed to tackle the day

You would surround yourself with like minded people who are all trying to better themselves instead of hanging out with people who are trying to bring you down 
You'd become the best version of yourself the 6-Figure man physically, mentally, and emotionally 
This post might be "too real" for some but I'm tired of the BS of people wanting results but not willing to do anything about.

Trust me, I get it that everyone has their own unique situations. Yes, yours might be tougher than other because you work 10 hours a day, have a family, etc I GET IT. 
The reality is that situation that is your life isn't going to change and you need to accept it as your own. 
Once you do that your excuses will subside and a new sense of believe and confidence will overcome you that you haven't felt for years.

Video from last weeks leg session with my dude @_scfitness, hitting 275 for 4 (at about an RPE 8.5...lol). •
After my past show in October, I essentially had to restart with my squats. My lower body mobility has never been great, but I really allowed it to get awful during this time frame. Lots and lots of no stretching. LOL and let me tell you, that is not a smart move. Essentially tightened my hamstrings enough to the point that my form would begin to break down before I could even reach parallel and my lower back would round. I’ve been working to fix my tight hamstrings, and build my squats back up. 275x4 now and ready to continue pushing. Learn from my mistake 🙃

Just finished up my last squat day before the meet this Sunday! Before this I hit 445lb for a walked out single and it felt really good so I said fuck it and decided to go for 465lbs. As you can see it was definitely slow and the fact that I had to wait really long because someone wanted to walk by me RIGHT as I was about to go 🙄. Thank you to my good friend @mavepaz for spotting me and making sure I didn’t die 😁🙌🏾 and shoutout to Ally Kat @cats_n_traps_88 who was too scared to come close and watched from a distance just Incase I did die 😂 #WhatAreFriendsFor 
And yes I still have no shoes (I’ll have them on the platform though)

Squat, deadlift, bench three days per is no joke but there is no better way to get good at something than by doing it again and again.

Drilling the motor skills for the three big lifts can have a big impact on your total, and can be especially useful if you are trying to increase strength within a specified weight class.

#squats #squatday So today was PR 3 rep, 5 rep and 7 rep so I hit 390, 365 and 325. They felt good second rep on 390 I let my ass lead the show..... But at least I'm educated enough to know it during the lift. @masonlynn35 laid on the floor because he rolled his ankle earlier today and his vagina was showing... Went with a 5x3 since my lower back is smoked. Some how I managed to do some leg extensions and calf raises (that caused some unfortunate cramping) before  overloading on the leg press with a close stance and knee wraps for 3 sets.

525x2 Squat and 365(375??) x 5 Safety Squat bar.
Went to Iron Works for the day and used the monolift and Texas Squat Bar! 
525 was easssy. I didn't stay tight for the 2nd rep though and it kinda pitched me forward but they felt light. 
Also the first time I've ever used the SSB. I really like it a lot!
