Weekends are made for baking, am I right? At least it was for me. Especially when you come across a mouthwatering chocolate chip cookie recipe. This one is from @ambitiouskitchen and it’s delish (you can get the recipe on her page)! Made with healthy, whole ingredients and a good dose of @vitalproteins collagen peptides. I used the Vanilla Coconut flavour for a little more of that creamy flavour and they turned out 👌🏻 👌🏻 👌🏻! Last gym session of the week done and dusted! I love the gym on a Saturday morning. Most people are taking their morning easy, so it’s mostly empty and that’s my version of heaven. It’s also the time when I volunteer at the YMCA in the weight room and it’s the best part of my day. To see al the friendly faces each week, people working to be the best versions of themselves, is just the most beautiful thing to me. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been training for years or are just picking up a weight for the first time, at that moment we all have one thing in common - we are all capable of something greater. 
With that being said, it’s time to take on the weekend! How do you plan on spending your Saturday?

Here it is, my favourite meal of the day. Ain’t it beautiful? 💕 I mean, how can your day start badly when it starts with this? 🤷🏻‍♀️ And while you might see a breakfast loaded with carbs, it’s actually packed with 44 grams of protein. Did you know that most people don’t get enough protein in their day? Just another day hanging out at the squat rack 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have to admit that these days, leg day is my least favourite day... I love the feeling of DOMS but am not a fan of squats. But what do you do when you get unmotivated with something, you switch it up... and that’s exactly what I did! I swapped the squat with a split leg squat and got my mojo back. Here a look at my current leg day:
✔️Split leg squats ✔️Romanian deadlifts
✔️One leg press
✔️Leg extension
✔️Lying leg curl

Each week I reduce the number of reps and increase weights, and I do that for 4 weeks. Why? It ensures that I’m not only working on strengths, but also hypertrophy. .

The shit continues... or is it opportunity knocking? Every time something goes wrong and shit hits the fan, you have two choices - you can either play the victim and wonder “why me?” or you can look at it as a sign from the universe and an opportunity to finally make shit happen. .

As positive as I try to be, the past few months have been really challenging. They’ve tested my strength and forced me to take a look at what’s really important in my life. They’ve made me feel negative at times and caused me to break down. After all, I’m only human. But everything happens for a reason. Each setback is actually a stepping stone for something better to come along. Everything will be ok. It’s up to me to make it happen 👊🏻

Behold the most comforting dish when you’re feeling sick - chili! This vegetarian version is from my girl @candicekumai’s book Pretty Delicious (one of my favorites in my collection). I don’t eat tofu very often, but I always make an exception for this recipe. 
BTW, did you know that tofu is a complete source of protein? It’s also a great source of calcium and magnesium (among other things). Just make sure you’re getting non-GMO, organic tofu to reap all the benefits.

My motto for 2018- keep your head high and your middle finger higher. Whatever happens to me, whatever shit I may be go through, I’ll try to go through it with my head held high. I’ll manage, somehow. And there will always be people who don’t understand and who will judge me based on what they think they know about me. Fuck them. This is easier said than done, but I try to remember that rule whenever I feel like giving up. This is not a resolution, it’s a promise to myself. 💕

It takes 21 days to establish a healthy habit, but it only takes one week of holiday treats for me to turn into the Cookie Monster 😊

It’s time to get back on track and for me that means back to salads. My go to is to always have a big ass bowl of chopped veggies on hand to throw over spinach and top with protein. Today’s protein of choice is tuna... delish!
.
Also, even though the gym opened later yesterday, I still managed to make it after work for my first workout of 2018 (yay me!). How are you getting back on the health train?

Happy last day of 2017. This past year was full of a lot of things - happy times, sad times, lessons learned, friendships made, friendships lost, self-discovery, self-realizations, tears of joy, tears of sadness... the list goes on. Through it all, I’ve realized what I want in life. I’ve been unhappy about some things for a while and was always waiting for something to happen to make me happy. But happiness is an inside job. It must come from within. Yes there are some things that you can’t control, but those are the things that you shouldn’t worry about. Instead, think of how you can turn a bad situation into a positive one. Because there is always a silver lining, you just need to open your eyes to see it. Think about what you are grateful for, because there’s always something to be grateful for. Think about how you can get one step closer to your goals, because there’s always a step that can be taken each and every day.

Another thing this year taught me is who my real friends are. The difficult times I went through made some friends disappear while others stepped up and showed me what true friendship really is. I have to give a huge thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all those that have supported me and lifted me up when I felt the most down. Your love means more to me than you will ever know. 
So here’s to ending the year filled with love, lessons and gratitude. And here’s to a beautiful start to new goals, new opportunities and an incredible new year 🍾🥂

Happy Sunday and happy last day of 2017! I just had my last workout of the year and now I’m treating myself to these delish blueberry pancakes... these are actually protein pancakes and a variation on the pumpkin spice pancakes I posted a few weeks back. I just switched the protein powder flavor to cookies and cream, switched pumpkin purée for applesauce and added fresh blueberries. I swear, my obsession with breakfast will never end. What are you having for breakfast?

I spent yesterday baking up these vanilla sugar cookies and let me tell you, they are delish! Not as sweet as regular sugar cookies (which I prefer) and filled with a (not so) secret ingredient that makes them a hell of a lot healthier than regular sugar cookies. Good morning darlings! It's cold, it's snowy and I'm in desperate need of some comfort food to get me going in the morning. My version of breakfast comfort food? A big bowl of warm oatmeal. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom used to make us breakfast before bundling us up to get out side to play in the snow. Lately I've been obsessed with pumpkin everything. Yes, I know that it's gingerbread season, but I opened a can of pumpkin purée and I have a ton of it to go through so 🤷🏻‍♀️. This version also has a good dose of protein, which is perfect if you're like me and you workout first thing in the morning. Here's how to make it:

1/3 cup of oats
2/3 cup of water
1/4 egg whites
2 tbsp pumpkin purée
1/2 scoop peanut butter protein powder (I used @pescience)
Topping of your choice

DIRECTIONS:
In a small saucepan, add the oats and water and bring to a boil. Then reduce to low and stir until most of the water is absorbed. Add the egg whites, stir to combine and cover for a few minutes until egg whites are cooked through. Add pumpkin purée and protein powder and stir to combine. Transfer tot a bowl and add your favourite toppings. Right now i'm obsessed with pomegranate. .

The other day at the gym trainer came up to me and gave me the best compliment. He told me that I was a great example of what you can achieve with consistency. See I’m at the gym every morning at 6 AM, 7 AM on weekends no matter what. Now before you judge and start telling me that this sounds obsessive it’s not. I just love starting my day in a positive way and the gym does it for me. I get to see my friends first thing in the morning, if I’m in a bad mood, lifting heavy things instantly erases that and it just makes me feel really happy. January will mark one year since I put BBG aside and started lifting weights and let me say that there isn’t one day that I regret that decision. Sticking to a routine has transform my body and my mind and such incredible ways that I never thought possible. Not only am I stronger physically but I’m now stronger mentally and none of it would’ve happened without consistency. .

I just love starting my day in a positive way and the gym does it for me. I get to see my friends first thing in the morning, if I’m in a bad mood, lifting heavy things instantly erases that and it just makes me feel really happy. January will mark one year since I put BBG aside and started lifting weights and let me say that there isn’t one day that I regret that decision. Sticking to a routine has transform my body and my mind and such incredible ways that I never thought possible. Not only am I stronger physically but I’m now stronger mentally and none of it would’ve happened without consistency. . Why do you workout? What’s your motivation? Over the past month, I’ve transitioned from a meal plan to counting macros and it’s really been a game changer. I’ve seen such great results so far and I’m really loving the flexibility of choosing what to eat and finding that balance. I recently listened to a podcast that blasted macro counting and iifym for promoting unhealthy eating. Here’s the thing, even if you focus on macros you still need to make sure your eating foods that are clean, healthy, REAL! Yes you can treat yourself to a cinnamon bun every once in a while, but on the daily just because you can fit Poptarts and Oreos into your macros, doesn’t mean that you should. Calories aren’t just calories. You are what you eat. Eat pretty 💕
