#tbt to 1993! 25 years ago I underwent a surgery that would change my life #forever . The doctor had to cut my lower leg in half and install an external fixator. I wore this device for 5 months and there wasn't a single second that I wasn't in pain. I did my PT essentially all day everyday to overcome the difficulty of undergoing such a procedure. I had to learn to walk again. I had to put endless amounts of time to regain the muscle strength I once had. I had to relearn how to move again. It was a challenge that most people will never experience, but all people experience on some  level with their lives. I over came this obstacle with my will, determination, visualization, stubbornness, and with the hopes that everything will be okay. I came out of it will appreciation, gratitude, and a natural intent to help other people with their pains. I wouldn't take any second of it back as it has made me the doctor that I am today.  I feel lucky and honored by the people that come to see me who put their trust in my hands. I want to let all know that you will get 100% of my attention and education when you come to see me. #namaste

SYNDROME ❌
We see A LOT of people here at Denver Chiropractic with upper Cross syndrome. This condition involves a combination of tight and hyperactive muscles with opposing weak and hypoactive muscles. This imbalance leads to postural and biomechanical dysfunction (forward head posture, elevated and rounded shoulders) which eventually leads to other painful conditions (headaches, neck and midback pain, shoulder impingement, thoracic outlet syndrome, improper breathing, rib dysfunction, etc)
Treatment for this imbalance begins with first addressing the postural dysfunction and being aware of poor postural habits. Next the tight muscles need to be released and inhibited (shut down neural drive and loosen) This occurs with stretching and self myofascial release (ie using a theracane or lacrosse ball) The next step includes strengthening the weak and inhibited muscles.

Tight muscles to stretch include: pecs, upper traps, levator scapulae

Weak muscles to strengthen include mid to lower traps, rhomboids, lats, and deep neck flexors.

Plantar fasciitis (which is actually considered plantar fasciosis) is a painful condition that involves irritation of the thick band of fascia at the the bottom of your foot. Over time repetitive stress and load on the plantar fascia causes inflammation and wear and tear on the tissue. The body then tries to repair itself with increased fibroblasts which actually leads to failed tissue healing. New weak blood vessels form and excessive collagen formation is laid down at the bottom of the foot. This faulty healing actually leads to more pain and inflammation. The goal is to repair the tissue and prevent future occurrences through treating the main causes of dysfunction. 
Symptoms:
-Sharp heel pain that is typically worse in the morning
-heel pain decreases throughout the day with blood flow and movement

Causes:
-decreased ankle dorsiflexion (tight calves)
-abnormal pronation of the foot (collapsed arch)
-overuse -decreases glute function -exercises or activities that cause increased load on the heels (ie sprinting and jumping)
-standing or walking for long periods on hard surfaces 
Treatment:
Shockwave therapy, cold laser, Graston, Active release technique, muscle strengthening exercises, calf stretches, dry needling, self myofascial release using a lacrosse ball or foam roller
