Update on gym life: I’ve been battling with a subscapularis tear in addition to cervical disc issues πŸ₯” 11 months ago, I started having a sharp pain under my scapula. I didn’t think much of it and kept on lifting. Fast forward 7 months, the pain never disappeared and I decided to take a break from lifting to stop aggravating the injury. About 2 months passed and it only got worse. In addition to the sharp pain, I was experiencing constant pain in my upper back and down my arm 24/7. I finally decided to go to an ortho. After a few xrays and MRI’s, I found out I had a tear that I tore over and over again, which led to muscle imbalances across my upper back that created cervical disc issues. Luckily, the tear isn’t bad enough to prevent arm/shoulder usage, but physical therapy is the only activity I’ll be seeing. Surgery may be a last resort if the PT doesn’t work out. Life lesson: don’t be an idiot. Go to a doctor if something seems off πŸ™ƒ And yes, all my friends have confirmed this and called me an idiot :D

315 PR. I’m not a fan of bench pressing, but since I was dirty bulking and the DB’s at my gym max at 110, I thought I’d make it a goal to achieve. Took 9 weeks of #ogus753 while benching twice a week to go up 30 pounds. I’ve also been utilizing ogus753 with sumos, never realized how good of a glute workout they were #thicc πŸ‘Œ Onto my next goal, dropping from 217 to 207 in 3 weeks AKA fat AF to fat :DDD (I’ll be lucky if I hit 210) #flannelgains -

Being lean is all about creating an illusion. To the average eye you look "bigger" since your muscles pop out more. In reality, your gym performance suffers and you become a lot weaker and smaller in comparison to your body at caloric maintenance/above maintenance. Also, eating 1500-1800 calories a day isn't the most fun πŸ™ƒ But all in all, there are pros and cons to every physique πŸ€” P.S. This pic is from a few months ago. Nowhere near that lean anymore. Med school has lit a fire under my ass. Gym frequency is at a low and for the first time in my life, I barely eat 😱 Time to get my shit together 😈😈😈

My workout partner and I decided to do a workout we used to do back in high school. Deadlifts for 5 reps every other minute for 20 sets. This is a much more lax version of what we used to do (which was sets on the MINUTE 🀒🀒🀒) It's fun to do a with a partner and it's a nice changeup from standard cardio. It'll be easy at first, but the latter half will start getting to you. Just make sure every rep is done as explosively as possible since the weight is low πŸ‘

My bicep mind muscle connection is probably the worst out of all my muscles. There are very few workouts in which I feel in tune with solely my biceps. Spider Curls are one of them! Set a 30-45 degree angle and let your arms hang. Alternate arms and make sure to focus on supination! I like to hit the bench corners with the inner parts of the DB to make sure I am supinating effectively. In addition, attempt to keep your arms perpendicular to the floor. It's okay if your elbows track in front of your shoulders, BUT do not let your elbows track behind your shoulders. Happy lifting πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

Bulk life. There is a huge population of people who believe they are ectomorphs aka "hard gainers." They claim they eat so much, but don't gain weight. In reality, they probably eat a ton in one meal and skimp out the rest or they are eating non caloric dense foods, making their daily caloric total at maintenance or even below. The truth is that ectomorphs are very rare to come by. *Tips* Replace lean proteins with fattier proteins: chicken thighs instead of breast, beef over turkey, whole eggs over whites. Eat caloric dense foods like cheese, peanut butter, and olive oil. 1. Number 1 Mistake: people pull with their arms instead of their lats, leading to an unwanted bicep pump😬 To help correct this, DO NOT squeeze the bar. Your hands should only act as hooks holding the weight, which is why I like to put my thumbs over the bar. Focus on driving down with your elbows.
2. Mind muscle connection issues! The lat requires downward and backward drive of the shoulders to contract. A tip for people with absolutely no sense of lat contraction: pretend someone is tickling your armpit and you're trying to clamp your arm down to block your armpit. Sounds weird, but go through those motions. That will accomplish a low elbow drive. Now think about driving back simultaneously. Even when you row, always think, "low elbows low elbows low elbows."
3. Play around with slight momentum. When I start to up the weight, I tend to recruit my biceps, which is bad. At that point, I add a slight lean back to get to the lat heavy portion of the exercise(being the bottom half). If you utilize pulldowns as a compound, this won't apply to you, since bicep recruitment is wanted in that scenario.
