Dear Mom or ANYONE for that matter ...I so understand how easy it is to get sucked into a realm of unhappiness - a belief system that decrees we can't be happy unless our circumstances are perfect: To settle for lies - believing everyone else has it altogether and we're the only one in a "less than perfect" world. In reality most of the world operates within this false sphere of thought. If we're not careful, we also slowly become persuaded that our happiness is solely based on, "if only." - If only: • My husband would have a better job • My teenage son wouldn't be so difficult • I would be a smaller dress size
• _______ would forgive me
• My friend would see things my way
• We would have more money
• I would've had a better childhood • My kids would obey
If only ________, THEN, I could be happy.
LIES. All of them.
Happiness is a choice.
It's silly. Because we let the "less than perfect" stuff in our lives rule our day, we foster negativity that forms our next minute's attitude. This sadly becomes normal if we're not careful. By meditating on our "if only's" we let current circumstances ruin beautiful moments and sweet memories in the making with our loved ones.
Here's the truth: Jesus didn't come to change my surroundings - He came to change ME.
Sweet Mom it's true. Jesus gave us the power to create heavenly atmospheres in our home through the power of His Spirit. Life on this side of heaven will ALWAYS be imperfect, but that doesn't mean we can't be happy. The kingdom is here, right now, living within us. When we choose to be happy no matter what, our atmosphere changes for the better right in front of us.
Trials and flop-ups don't have to make us miserable because they are not us - we are NOT them. They should NOT define us, they only refine or make us stronger if we allow them to. We need to learn how to separate ourselves from our bad circumstances and allow the Lord to define who we are. What He says never changes, unlike our environment.
I felt like I needed to share this with you today. It's from @helpclubformoms that my sister @rachelmarayajones helps to run. Photo is our design & cant be found on some of our t's - 1 year ago
