Day 4 of The Inca Trail: 38.5 miles, woohoo! I made it! This morning we woke at 3am to be fed, caffeinated and on line to the gates to the trail into Machu Picchu. Gates open at 5:30am, but people begin lining up around 4am…those people included us! Once they opened the gates, one by one we each entered. It was last stretch of this trail, our elevation was a few thousand feet lower and my breathing was back on track. We hiked as fast as we possibly could, rushing from Wiñaywayna to Intupinku, the Sun Gate. Sadly, it was a bit too cloudy to catch the grand view, but we tried our best! By 8:30am we were at Machu Picchu with the masses. We all checked in, checked our packs at the lockers, and began our wander about these spectacular ruins.
