Our plan for the 300-seat state-of-the-art theatre at the revived Coconut Grove Playhouse has been strongly endorsed by the theater community! Hear from Barbara Stein and David Arisco, who have founded and run Actors’ Playhouse, Miami-Dade County’s largest self-producing regional professional theatre company, for over thirty years:
. “It is our firm belief from years of experience in Miami-Dade County, that a 700-seat theatre would be a detriment to our cultural and business community and unnecessary. We think this for the following reasons:
. "The combination of the presenting performing arts centers, which also house regional companies, and the stand-alone neighborhood regional professional theatres in our community, we have more than enough theatre seats to serve the current and long-range future of the theatre going public. Even with critically acclaimed productions, these theaters have difficulty filling seats to full capacity for every performance. Public facilities around the country are currently minimizing their seating capacity in new building projects, as well as capping off larger seating capacities in existing facilities, because of underuse.
. "In addition, it’s not just about the capital expense of building the space. It is mostly about sustainability, prompting a serious question, is there the opportunity for our current cultural consumers to support yet another large-scale operation. You may say, that if you build it they will come, but from experience, the operations of a large facility takes more than optimism, and filling the 700 seats is not a financially judicious choice in our community." #GroveStage #SupportTheSaneSolution
