Most people don't spend enough time focusing on building strength and actually creating a good foundation to grow from. If you want to get stronger then follow these guidelines:
1) It's a good idea to use bigger, compound, barbell movements to gain strength. Why? Well, you'll be able to lift more weight (as long as your form is in check) which is vital for increasing your strength. Great choices here include the big 3 as well as other barbell lifts of your choosing, depending on what exercises you feel like you want to get stronger at. Dumbbells and machines can still be used when the goal is strength gain, but, to a lesser degree and lower in volume.
2) You'll need to lift heavier weights if you want to get stronger plain and simple. Over the course of your training program, you should be lifting heavier and heavier and using higher intensities to promote strength gains.
3) Related to the point above, you'll want to focus on progressively overloading your lifts so that over time, you are lifting more and more weight. If you aren't increasing the weight on the bar over time, how do you really know you're getting stronger? Adding weight to the bar is a sure fire way to know you've gained strength.
4) Lastly, you'll need to dedicate more time in the 1-6 rep range. This is a general range and can be modified depending on the goals and lifter, but you won't build much strength training with super high reps. Focus on good quality work in this range and you'll notice a dramatic difference in your strength levels.
Getting stronger can be a lot of fun and it's certainly hard work, but it is worth it. I hope this helps, and, if you have any questions just leave em below.
