I know this isn’t #throwbackthursday but, I’m posting something that goes back a little ways because I want to share something with you. This picture is about 8 or 9 years old. It was at a time where I was confident that my next steps would take me into backcountry search and rescue work. Each year in college we spent a few short weeks looking at and training first year college students in wilderness first aid. I loved it. Crawling around through woods, finding “injured” people and getting them from backcountry to front country. I loved the energy, the adrenaline, the intensity, the knowledge I was learning about how the body works, and I loved how it was putting some of that care and responsibility squarely on my shoulders. Those dreams are still dreams right now. I never became a search and rescue helicopter pilot, I haven’t had the time and resources yet to be able to join a local search and rescue team. Family and financial limitations forced me to make other priorities more important, for this season of my life. But back then I had no idea that many of those same things that excited me about search and rescue would be met in my current business with oils. Never have I understood the body and what it needs in order to be healthy as I do now. Never have I been able to take so much ownership in taking care of my physical needs. And never did I know there was such a plethora of resources out there, of people willing to share their knowledge and wisdom so that I could come to a place of better understanding on how the body works and how I have an entire wellness toolbox at my fingertips. I’m still looking forward to the day when I’ll be able to go in the backwoods and haul a half dead person out to safety, or find that lost person who really just wants to be home. But until then, as I enjoy and care for my family, I’m thankful to have found a way to still further my knowledge of the body, and share and care for others and their needs.
