In 6 days @kerry_catt and @kelly_in_kona will race their first ever Lavaman Triathlon. We had a race day workshop yesterday on the same course. I went through all of my tips and tricks to succeed at this legendary race. Lavaman is my favorite Olympic race in the world. These two are more than prepared. I’m incredibly proud of the progress they’ve made in just our four months together under #livewildcoaching . Not only are they dedicated. But my athletes are such good people. This goes for all of my team. They work hard to constantly strive for their best selves and care for our community and their families in such admirable ways.
The day started at 7am with a guided meditation and mindfulness techniques that can be used any time of day but especially on race morning. Then we did sighting drills and got used to the water. I did some full contact simulation with them to remind them how aggressive a Triathlon swim can be. We practiced transitions and checked out the Bike and run courses. I had them do some quick bursts of interval work. Nothing too long, but I wanted them to feel the course under stress and speed. They nailed the intervals marvelously. Their transitions were quick and effective. We practiced a few rounds to make sure we had all our gear lined up too. •••
Days like these are what make me truly love coaching. I learned so much that day from them as well. We are always growing. If we deny that—that is when we digress.
