Finish Line Photo!!
Feeling so strong here! Im proud that I controlled myself enough to run smart, starting on the high end of the 7’s (almost 8 min miles) and finishing in the 7:30s. Have you ever heard the gun go off and see runners blast outta that gate like a crazy person..it’s so so common! Our adrenaline is pumping and you’ve got these goal finish times in your mind, and you just feel SO good!! •
I’m no pro, but I do get asked advice often from friends trying to qualify for Boston. If your goal is simply a 3:30-3:35 marathon time to qualify(my age group/gender)..IMO you have NO business running 7:40 paces or lower. If your goal is sub 3:25, then sure! :) But make sure that’s what you trained for. ••••••
I’ve seen it happen so many times.. with disappointment, people say they missed their qualifying time and I look & see that their splits go a little something like 7:30, 7:38, 7:42, 7:35, 7:45, 7:50 and so on, and then by mile 16 it’s in the low 8’s and then bam mile 20-26 is like 8:30, 8:40, 8:50 and I know exactly what happened!! It’s happened to the best of us! Discipline yourself and your mind to run SMART!! And you’ll get that BQ!! 26.2 miles is a long way to go and if you wear yourself out by mile 16, those last 10 miles are gonna suck pretty bad! •••••••
