First, you might want to wait until they recognize the sound of their own name. It makes it easier to catch their attention to make them look up at you. Second, she is only just standing right in front of me holding onto my legs. So positioning is also everything with your camera, making sure not to catch anything besides the baby in the portrait. Once you've got all these down, now it's time for patience. Just say your child's name now and then and whenever they look up, look for the opportunity to take the shot! Have your camera ready of course, maybe keep it up and in position while saying your child's name so that when the right moment strikes you are prepared!
Keep in mind with these photos, I had used my Canon Rebel T7i with a 50mm lens. I used the manual focus to achieve this look, which creates a blur effect. Some camera phones now have a setting to achieve a look similar to this.
