Seven years ago our grounds shook. Our city was shaken, so too where our hearts.
Today I want to send all my strength to those who lost loved ones, we will never ever forget. I also want us to feel proud for overcoming the tremendous adversity that the earthquakes brought us here in Canterbury.
Everywhere we look today there's still reminders, and although I know I'm in a privileged position to view it this way- I tend to look at those empty sites as testaments to how much we have all been through as a community.
Those of us who were lucky enough to have the chance, have all really banded together. We spoke to our neighbours, we helped our community, we had more empathy for strangers we passed on the street.
We have had tens of thousands of quakes during this period, which is enough to rattle anyone to their core, yet we're still here stronger than ever.
