The past two months have been full of music, choreography, and staging rehearsals for the Oklahoma City University Season Finale Musical Production of Leonard Bernstein’s “On the Town”. I am so happy and thankful to have had such ample podium time conducting through the show in rehearsals. There’s something particularly special about conducting theatre: a connection that envelops audience, cast member, and musician all into one setting for one moment of time. The escape from the real world to the musical one is so necessary to our well-being sometimes. The conductor is a facilitator that bridges acting with singing and choreography for the audience to appreciate. I am so happy to have gotten to take on this role even only as a student in rehearsals. Thanks go to Dr. Mailman for the opportunity to do this, Chris Benham for being a fantastic grad conductor partner, and to all of the amazing cast and dancers in the production for always being at their highest level when I was not. It has been an amazing two months, and I am so happy to be able to close this chapter and turn the page to start writing the next one.
