The back story behind these pictures is a tale worth telling. “Dee.” I texted the lady boss of Bless Inc Asia, my PR partners.
“I got an event I need to attend. And I need help getting ready for it.”
-and then the question with the bated breath- “Would you be able to hook me up with anyone?”
The thing I love about Dee is how straight talking she is. “You willing to pay? Or give token sum?” “No man. I am super broke right now.” A busy woman, I got two words back on whatsapp.
“Tell me.” I took a deep breath, and opened to honesty. How maddeningly pressed finances had been, and how dead broke I was from Tour and the struggle to find sponsors. But how I knew, inspite of it all, I was right where God wanted me to be. How I was initially intending to just rock up in jeans and simple make up for Daniel Boey’s event—but at my agent’s behest, decided to ask for help to dress up. I mean, rocking up in jeans and simple make up honestly didn’t seem too bad an idea.
But sometimes, that just doesn’t do things justice. And I think that’s the biggest thing I learnt last night. Give yourself some justice. Believe you can do better than what your circumstances tell you. And maybe, just maybe, give others to do you some justice (read: seed some faith, and love), too. “Don’t worry,” she texted back. “We support you.” Dee got a whole team together. Make up maven, Tinoq, hairstylist, Dylan Chan, and stylist, Parveen H who took out their own time, to step in and set me up for this event. Parveen went down to Reckless Ericka and Sabrina Goh’s shops to pick outfits. Tinoq and Dylan brought down the whole new range of LANIEGE Ideal Blush Duo and Ideal Shadow Quad sets to match. Together, they worked seamlessly to weave it all together.
As you guys might have seen on the FB live video, we had a lot of fun : ) I laughed so much at Tinoq’s jokes, I would have forgiven him if he misdrew my eyeliner, or accidentally gave me a monobrow!
One thing I am very grateful for, is how much I learnt. I find it very very refreshing working with specialists (not generalists) from different industries, because they have a different, but no less guided eye to solving problems. (see ctd') - 10 months ago
