This is so my life right now.
Riding the waves and being carried by my sisters (and brothers.) I keep going back to this painting of mine from 2016.
️Shocking waves of surprise and grief last fall: gasp for air, and sister @maryellen_smith comes to stay with me for months. ️single parenthood, unplanned, diving in. My parents-in-law (in-love) and my own parents help in so many ways. ️so new in town: welcomed into community and “family” dinners and work
️deeply lonely and heartbreaking moments: so often lifted by calls, messages, paper letters, gifts in the mail, and extravagant surprises for me and the kids. You all know who you are. There are so, so many of you. ️ knee injury requiring surgery and months of recovery: I can’t even pretend to ride this one on my own. Sister @adventuring_with_joy literally carries my kids, and groceries, and laundry and ME. She had already sacrificed so much time to move in with me, and so gracefully transitioned to caregiver. She leaves tomorrow after 5 months of being with us, and we adore her. She’s jumped into this hard, hard job and sweet community, and she is loved by so many. ️and the presence of Jesus, real, real, real. ️Thank you all for helping me survive (and actually find joy). - 2 months ago
