Tonight’s post is a special one. Meet Bluewater Babes family member, Lainey Muenich. Here’s her story... “My name is Lainey Muenich and my relationship with Bluewater Babes is a special one. I was first introduced to the organization in 2011 and over the years my position has strengthened from being on “Team Babe,” to helping director Jennifer McGrath with the behind the scenes work at the event. In September 2016, I was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer at 33 - found during a routine doctor’s appointment. I have no family history and like many women, never thought this could happen to me, especially in my early thirties.
After the devastating news, Jennifer was one of my first phone calls. She assured me that it was going to be okay and that the women of Bluewater Babes would be there to support me. She also told me that something good would come out of this.
I had a bi-lateral mastectomy and reconstruction, with chemotherapy and radiation to follow. It was one of the toughest six months of my life. I was planning a wedding for May 2017 that had to be postponed. I lost my hair from the chemotherapy and overall, was just exhausted. But I kept my eye on the prize and told myself that I will get back to my old self soon enough.
Here I stand today, healthy, CANCER-FREE and grateful that I survived the battle. Not only do you realize how incredible your family and friends are during a time like that, but I had women that only knew me through Bluewater Babes show their love and support.
The support I felt through a meal-train started by Bluewater Babes, financial assistance, and overall love was just incredible. I know the difference this organization makes because I have experienced it firsthand! Because of my journey, I can now educate, bring awareness, and support women who get that life changing phone call like I did.” - 6 hours ago
