🇨🇦 Recently, my fair city had its first shooting, in which two civilians, and two officers were slain: Cst. Robb Costello and Cst. Sara Mae Burns, Donnie Robichaud and Bobbie Lee Write, the latter of which was a friend of several of my friends.
Today was the funeral of the two officers, where 7,000 people came to pay their respects, to our first officers killed in the line of duty. This image was taken from my Facebook feed, and it was posted by another Frederictonian. I thought this image was more powerful than the flowers, the processions, blue ribbons and words of prayer. A caparisoned horse is a many-centuries old European tradition (possibly older) that is rare to see nowadays. This image cut me like a knife. I can’t imagine losing my parent (mom), as Berns and Costello’s collective 7 kids, +2 step kids have. Fredericton is a SMALL city, and everyone knows everyone, almost. We are a knitted unit, so when this horrid shooting happened, we all hurt. People lost friends, family, their sense of safety and security, and two of our beloved protectors. Drink a coffee for the officers, and smoke a blunt for Bobbie and Donnie, everyone. Or drink a beer, or something. Take a moment to be thankful for your loved ones, and for the officers that protect us. 🖤 #frederictonstrong #thankyou #police #policeheroes #frederictonheroes #gunviolenceawareness #caparisonedhorse #fallenprotector #remember #CanadianPolice #BoysinBlue #prayforfredericton #frederictonnb #fredericton #policepride #thankyouofficers #thankyouforyourservice - 2 days ago
