My brother is getting married in less than 30 days. They bumped the wedding date up. And, no lie, some crazy things popped into my head for how I might get leaner quicker. Even though I know the TRUTH that it just doesn’t work that way. Even though I know that HEALTH is the goal. Even though I know that these quick fixes are bad for EVERYONE, especially folks with IBS. If you’re looking to work on your physique, I get it. Really I do. And trying to deal with that AND heal IBS is a lot. But here’s some magic for you... the way to both of these goals is the same. Eat real foods, in good portions. Exercise daily. Master your mindset. Surround yourself with people who light you up. Simple, right? So will I be at my goal physique by March 23... probably not. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Because HEALTHY is numero uno. Stand tall, darling. When you focus on that it’s you vs. you. Ain’t it sweet? xoxo .

I haven't posted in the last 3 days because I haven't been feeling all that great...
I went to the restaurant Thursday, and although I was careful, I guess I ate something I shouldn't and my stomach has been painful ever since. It was AWFUL Thursday evening, with huge cramps on the left side only. It started again after lunch.. so I skipped dinner snd slept over 13 hours! It still hurts today but not only on the left side now. It isn't as bad but it's stiff and aches... Everytime I eat it starts again or gets worst! My magic bag is my bff now.

I have something I need all of your input on. So recently, my parents have just been telling me that they think I shouldn’t do online school next year. I do it this semester and actually really enjoy it because my old school was just a toxic place and a major trigger for my IBS and anxiety. They keep bringing it up telling me that I’m going to have to go back next year, but I just haven’t responded yet because I really want to formulate my argument as to why I think it would be a bad decision to have me go back. It may not seem like it on here but everyday I battle thoughts of self-doubt and worthlessness. I know how it feels to look in the mirror and hate what i see, or put on a t-shirt and hate how my back fat shows. I don’t have a solid career nor do I know what I even want to do. I battle this EVERY DAMN DAY. We are set up to think that there’s always something better and that we are never good enough.

This can be a huge motivator to bettering our lives, but it often leads to unhealthy expectations.

You were put on this earth with a purpose and because of that you are important, no matter where you are in this journey we call LIFE. 💜

#ElementalDiet day 6&7 - can't believe this original 📈 was done back in May of last year...add me to the list of people complaining they get *worse* after they begin treatment 😕

If I'm totally honest with you guys, yesterday was a bad day 😖 I was okay for most of the day, but completely deflated in the afternoon - no energy, feeling really sad and down and nutrient-deprived, and when I took a big swig of water to try and feel better my bloating absolutely EXPLODED 😖😖 My husband and I have some theories and hopefully a way forward, tho: up until now I've been "chugging" the diet 4-6 times a day (splitting a 'meal' in half and just downing it), but that may have been the wrong approach for me... as you can see from my initial lactulose breath test graph (pic), my numbers spike lower in my small intestine. I think drinking such a big amount of water at once (500-750ml) was too much, and pushed the diet down into my small intestine to where the bacteria like to hang out, which gave them a TONNE of food (the dextrose in the high-fat, low carb homemade diet provides 27g of sugar per meal alone 😲) The good news: I woke up with a flat belly again today (I think that's 5 days in a row now with a flat stomach in the morning!😍) and my new approach is this: drink 2-3tbsp of the diet every hour, on the hour, with about 250ml of water to stay hydrated, and see what my bloating looks like. #bestplanigot

Life can get pretty hectic sometimes 😅 Especially as a teacher and a grad school student, my life is not super glamorous during the week. By the time Friday hits, I’m exhausted and not wanting to make much food. 😩Fortunately, there are a few foods I can order for pick up that don’t bother me. I’m pretty proud of myself. When I first started coaching I did it for the accountability to my own health but 6 months in and I’m freaking crushing it. The minimum goal I set is to change 3 lives a month and I’ve consistently done that for three months straight. So far this month I have 4 and a new coach joining my team!

I’m pretty proud of myself. When I first started coaching I did it for the accountability to my own health but 6 months in and I’m freaking crushing it. The minimum goal I set is to change 3 lives a month and I’ve consistently done that for three months straight. So far this month I have 4 and a new coach joining my team! . QUESTION TIME || FODMAP? 💩

This morning was the first noticeable time that my stomach and gut have felt good for a while. I remembered what 'normal' felt like, and it got me thinking... 💭 It made me think that I will only ever have one body, and I should look after it more. My body enables me to do some amazing things, I should treat it with more kindness and respect. My gut has not purposely decided to struggle with digesting and absorbing certain foods, so why should I punish it? 💭It was so nice to not experience pain or discomfort, and it made me wonder whether eating whatever I really want to eat IS actually worth it? Or should I be listening to my body more (thanks @livvy.duck) and eating what works best for me? 
My GP recently recommended trying the FODMAP diet, and I instantly ignored the idea thinking 'it will be inconvenient', 'it will be boring', and 'I won't be able to eat anything'. After today's little epiphany, I am now seriously considering trialling FODMAP. I just wondered if anyone has any experience with it? Any top tips? And most importantly, whether you found it helpful? Thank you💛

Friday night treat 😋🍰🍇 I don’t manage to get to Tesco often but when I do this is a must to pick up! I have such a sweet tooth & sometimes i struggle finding sweet desserts that taste near enough the same to the version I should not be eating, but these cheesecakes always go down a treat 😍

Ummmmm yah happens all too often.
I find it so hard to distinguish between when I’m demotivated and when my body is physically unable. Sometimes I am the former, but my fear of payback fatigue or overdoing it and then feeling unwell for WEEKS afterwards stops me from doing what I actually could have done.
The fear of fatigue stops you living your life as much as the fatigue itself sometimes.
It’s a constant game, where the rules are always changing (M.E don’t play fair) to figure out where your energy boundaries are. Then once you think you figure it out, either the rules change again or you overdo it by trying to progress to the next level.
Does this analogy work????
I shall continue anyway...
What I’m saying it’s it’s not a simple as: tired then rest. (Can I get a hell yeahhhhh I wish I was this simple!!) it’s an evolution and as I say, the conditions and your ability never stay the same so it’s near impossible to get a grip on your limits. This means you’re constantly worrying and overdoing it. Well I am anyway. 
I’m trying to lower the worry as if it’s gunna happen anyway I’m wasting energy.
BUT don’t disregard the worry- you’re trying to protect yourself but just a bit too much. Be MINDFUL.
Mindfulness about your ability and fatigue levels takes away the negative stress associated with ‘worry’. Mindfulness says to be- k, I’m aware, I’m learning, we’re gunna figure this out. Not so much of ‘mistakes’ just ‘lessons’.

Lately, I’ve been feeling the struggle for real. My stomach issues have been pretty awful + I’ve felt so down about my body. .

Remember how I always tell y’all to love your bodies through every stage? Yeah, that’s tough for me to do too. But I know each morning that I wake up + crush my workout, whether I feel good about myself or not, I’m doing some good for myself + nothing can change that. .
.

There are some medical things that I’m figuring out + are out of my control right now but what I can control is what I think about myself + how I treat myself. So each day, slowly, I’m working towards loving me. 💕

I have to share!!!! So I handed in my final papers for my nutrition program last week and got my grades back today, 96%!! YAY!!! So what does this mean? It means that I will do my final exam in March, and if all goes well, I will be able to start my nutrition side of the business shortly after!!! Woot Woot!!!! My focus will be weight loss coaching and disease prevention, as well as helping people with bowel issues like IBS, or bowel diseases. Soooo excited, this has been in my heart for too many years, so glad the time has come!!! I will keep you updated as my plans unfold! 😊🙏

Lunch time snack 😏 Plantain chips for me 😍 I picked these up in Tesco, but there are so many different variety of plantain chips available, (I love the chilli ones). These ones are salted and I think they were around 89p. I have never tasted the grace plantain chips but they are probably one of the nicest ones I have tasted, they are a perfect gluten free snack & high in fibre and vegan 🙌🏾 •  @tescofood @gracefoods

Have you ever been told that to move your bowels you just need to “eat more fiber?” And on top of it to always choose brown rice over white rice? I talk about this + starches in general on pages 30-31 of The Gutsy Girl’s Bible: an approach to healing the gut, but here’s the skinny (directly from the book):

‘”Brown Rice is the whole grain with just the first outer layer (husk or hull) removed through milling. It still retains its fiber and the germ that contains many of the most vital nutrients.

White rice is brown rice that has first been milled to take away the bran and much of the germ. This reduces the fiber and many nutrients. It is further polished to take away the remaining layer of germ (called the aleurone layer) which contains its essential oils. It is these oils that oxidize and go rancid.

Just because you have read on the Internet that you should always “choose brown rice over white rice because it’s healthier,” doesn’t necessarily make it so for the Gutsy girl. The reason is that, just like the descriptions above say, the white rice has been milled to take away the bran and much of the germ. This extra outer layer can be extremely hard to digest.
