As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
You have probably heard the quote from Jim around, "you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with." No matter who you are, your age, or your personality, you are influenced by those closest to you. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to make good choices and truly care about you and not your appearance, money, or career. These kind of people are hard to come by, so when you find one, really value that relationship. Sometimes we don't get to choose who we are around on a daily basis, such as coworkers. If they don't align with your values or believes, that's okay. You don't necessarily have to make an effort to change them, but keep yourself in check to make sure you are not getting pulled into their believes and actions of those are not good for you and the person you strive to be. Even within places like church, there is plenty of bad company to be had. Negativity, jealousy, and hate run rampant in the most "Christian" of circles. Be aware of the influences in your life and how they affect you. You are in control of you and your goals. If something is pulling you in the wrong direction, find a way to break free from it and find a better option. And lastly, if you know someone who is being influenced by less than desirable sources, make an effort to reach out to them to show them that there is another way and that you care about them even though you don't do the things they do or have the same beliefs. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. - Proverbs 15:1
