I woke up to the banging of something I couldn’t put a finger on. It wasn’t like plates or people, something duller. I got up out of bed, not bothering to put a shirt on and walked out of my tiny room. The curtains were drawn like usual but the tv was on which is rare. It’s usually off because it costs too much and Jada is so cheap she won’t pay to get the good channels. Some old western was on, answering my question about where the racket was coming from. I tuned down the shouting and shooting then thought better and turned the tv off. When I wake up Jada is usually passed out in the bathroom or kitchen, one time she was even in the backyard but today she was nowhere to be found. I walked throughout the tiny house and eventually made my way into the front yard. She was sitting on the stoop, an opened beer can in her hand. She didn’t look up at me or acknowledge my presence but she talked which she doesn’t normally do at this time in the morning.
Jada: Isn’t it crazy, I’ve just never seen so many pink fucking dolphins. So… many… pink dolphins.
Chosen: What the- Have you been mixing drinks?
I asked her about the alcohol but I knew it wasn’t just that to make her see pink dolphins.
Chosen: Come on, let's get you inside.
After working with Demetrius I’d gained a lot of muscle lifting tools and stuff but even if I hadn’t been “working out” I still could have carried Jada easily. She barely eats and drinks constantly making her about 108 pounds. I carried her back to her bed bridal style and then took her flats off and covered her in a light blanket. Sure she treats me like dirt but if I had left her out there it could have been bad. I have no idea what she took but it was strong. I drank some milk because that’s all we had in the house then I showered and got ready for work. I walked the ten blocks and got started on cleaning tools when Demetrius walked up behind me with news.
Demetrius: Son, I wanna show you somethin’. Chosen: Yeah?
Demetrius: Well come on now.
