There's a far bigger world outside the walls of my home. My city. My state. My country. My continent. Outside these walls there's a world full of uncertainties, and if I cannot accept the complexities of this world I cannot be open to what life has to offer me. 🤔
I use to believe others should fight my battles. I use to believe others should make the changes I wanted to see. I use to believe others should accept me for my sexuality, should agree with my political views, should have the whole world work in my favor. But life doesn't work that way.
That's where it all comes back to Uncertainity. The world is ever-changing. When I kept relying on my "shoulds", I was very disappointed. Instead of building my own personal happiness, independence, and self-worth it all relied on external outcomes that may never happen. And I suffered because of it.
I don't want to see people suffer. I see people hurting each other. I see people demanding that others must listen to them and closing themselves off to disagreement. I see how everyone wants to be "right". In doing so, staying in our safe spaces, we're staying divided but now it's with a dash of resentment.
I've come to the understanding that if people don't see my "right", that's okay. Not everyone will see my vision, just as not everyone will see each other's perspectives wholeheartedly. Not a single person on this planet is 100% the same. And that's the beauty of it! The fact that none of us are exactly the same is all the more reason to connect with someone, debate a topic, share ideas, and who knows where you both may find some common ground!
Instead of thinking why must this person listen to you, try this instead. "What can I learn from this person? What are they seeing that I'm not seeing?" Let me know if it works for you. ️ #TranscendLabels - 6 hours ago
