Why is grip strength important & how do you improve it? This is something our personal training & boot camp clients ask us and we thought you might be interested in the answer too... Grip strength is important for making progress on many weight training exercises including dead lifts, cleans, chin ups & bent over rows. If your grip strength is preventing you from progressing on these exercises it could also be limiting your strength or muscle gain results from your training program.
Grip strength is also important for obstacle course racing to successfully complete rope climbs, monkey bars, rope traverses and various other obstacles where holding up your body weight is required.
Most importantly grip strength is required for day to day tasks such as carrying shopping bags, walking the dog and lifting a heavy washing basket up from the ground.
There are so many exercises that can be used to improve your grip strength but 3 of our favourites are (1) hangs, (2) farmer carries & (3) rope chin ups.
