That definitely doesn’t mean I haven’t experienced failure. There has been plenty of that...but there’s always a fire burning inside of me, and a voice in my head telling me that I can do more and better. I love the competitions with myself. That might make me a little crazy lol 🤪 but it’s so much healthier than trying to compete with others. You can’t control others’ blessings, talents, connections, and experience, but you can control how much effort you put into your growth towards any goal. So many people can do the same thing, but it’s an individual’s uniqueness that makes them stand out to others. Be you! Keep your eyes on the prize, and let that light shine! 💪🏽✨🔥

What does self-worth mean to you???

Nowadays society holds great value and worth to the superficial things in life. Who’s got the biggest jewels, the most expensive bags, and the nicest cars. Meanwhile all of that is nice (and very well deserved for those who worked their butts off for it), but it DOES NOT EQUATE TO SELF-WORTH!
.
We are worth so much more than our possessions. I will admit that at one point in my life I definitely felt inferior because of my lack of luxurious things. I thank God I’ve matured past that now!
.
My self-worth is based on who I am as a person. I strive to be helpful, caring, and empathetic. As long as my heart and soul are right with God, I know I’m living out my purpose. My self-worth is no longer based on what possessions I’ve obtained but my identity in Christ and because of that I now know what true peace feels like.

Today is the perfect example for myself to remember why making yourself a priority is important. Early on in the week I had to make the decision on how to better use my time. I’ve been working so hard, but it got to the point where I was feeling really burnt out and taking one too many power naps. And even though I didn’t want to feel like I was letting anyone down, I had to think about how I can adjust my schedule to my benefit. What can I do to be more efficient with my time to allow myself to be able to give back more? I decided to cut back some work time, pull out of an event, and get 8 hours of sleep. With that effort, my body was energized for the day, I was more productive in my schedule, and I didn’t feel any stressors of trying to meet deadlines that didn’t need to be there. Anytime you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back and see what you can do to improve the situation. If you make yourself the priority and take care of yourself best as you can, you’re able to bring more energy to others and your day! 😆

Spring sunshine has got this mama moooooving today!!!! These moves are not haaaalf as much volume as I'm used to from the past but when your healing from the inside out you have to mix things up a bit. Why REVERSE DIETING doesn’t work!... Ok now that i got ur attention most competitors don’t have that hard set goal or fear of looking bad on stage hanging over their heads post competition. That coupled with the physical/mental fatigue of being in a wicked calorie deficit with a silly amount of high output which usually sends them into a glutinous frenzy after their show, cardio comes to a screeching halt and from there many fail to reel it back in. Reverse dieting (which is also good for weight loss dieters as well) is the “secret” (not really—people know but just fail to execute it with the same level of discipline as they do when they prep for a show) to maintaining a lean physique while incrementally increasing ur calories gradually over a duration of time. U will be stunned at the amount of carbs u will be able to consume at a much leaner composition which sets u up for a much better prep the next time u decide to diet or do a show. I’ve been committed to a much leaner physique this year (well since the beginning of December last year which puts me at month 5 on my Shredz game). I’ve been utilizing reverse dieting to go in and out of a calorie deficit while keeping a lean physique. Otherwise I’d be down to zero calories and a f*cked up metabolism by the end of summer if I just kept on dieting. We cannot stay in negative energy balance forever because restricting calorie intake does more than just reduce ur total fat mass. It affects ur metabolism as well. With that said the worst thing you can do following a period of weight loss is exactly what u want to do... dramatically increase ur calorie intake. U also don’t want to just keep your food intake at its current low level, this will just perpetuate the metabolic impairments. What u need is a strategy for raising ur food intake back to normal levels without gaining fat, and that strategy is reverse dieting. www.ajfit.online

#fbf to my speedo modeling days haha. This was an awesome shoot in Costa Rica. I’m really glad that I got experience in natural bodybuilding/physique competitions before doing any shoots. Today, I walked out of the gym at 6 pm & it was 70 and breezy 😱 Summer is on its way ya’ll ☀️
I also got a little excited today, because I’m starting to see the summer shreds! 
If you’ve kept up with my posts, you would know that this summer and “shredding” season is different for me, because I am usually in prep right now. 
It blows my mind that I am continuing to live a balanced lifestyle, eating what I want (nothing crazy but not cutting out certain foods) and training for fun vs training for aesthetic results. 
It’s odd because this process is almost more rewarding, it’s like look at you go; you’ve nailed consistency, moderation, and balance all in one! 
Long story short, progress is success! No matter how big or how small, who can notice & who can’t.. take pride in your achievements and run with it 👌🏻

STRETCHING THE PIRIFORMIS!

👉The piriformis is a small muscle whose primary job is to rotate the hip externally and is probably best known for causing sciatic pain. If the piriformis gets tight, it can cause pain from the butt to the feet. Give this a try if you have a tight piriformis.

☝️Here's how to perform the figure-4 piriformis stretch!

1️⃣Lay on the ground.
2️⃣Cross your leg over the other knee just above the knee.
3️⃣This creates a number 4 shape!
4️⃣Bend the knee of the leg that is straight towards your head.
5️⃣Grab the shin/knee or foot and pull toward you while using the other hand to push the other knee away from you!

The squat is the ultimate life motto, get pushed down and stand right back up. Today’s session, although no where near what I’ve done in the past or what I’m capable of provided a different type of training for me.

In the chaos and mess that is life, the gym seems to be the place where it disappears. I talk a lot on this page about exercise form and training modalities but today I want you, the reader, to realize I go beyond that.

I’m a person too with emotions, real life problems, and shit I’m trying to figure out. Today’s session was one I forced myself to go to. Usually I do the work, scroll through Instagram between sets, and listen to music to zone out. Today was different. I stayed present in what I was feeling and doing. But this is why I love the hex bar, especially with beginner clients, but definitely for anyone looking for new muscle stimulus. Due to hex bar load next to you and in a more joint friendly position, you can minimize the stress on your torso, while still having great posterior chain activation. @islostajobtitle demonstrates beautifully how you should control the weight and keep your back in a neutral position. You can even slightly duck out your feet to allow for a better hamstring activation. This exercise will leave beginners sore, so definitely start slow when starting!

So proud of this chick right here! @hannaiskool came to me about two months ago to do her macros and some accessory training. For the badass power lifter that she was, she was severely under eating. Hanna’s Numbers are up in the gym. And today she took first in her division and best female lifter!! Not a bad day. Her 138 lbs moved 863 lbs total today. 4.20.18 What’s your relationship with food like? 🍔 For me, I’ve experienced both an unhealthy relationship with food and am working on creating a better one.

For example, I’ve been hard-core slacking this week on my nutrition and workouts. 😕 Today was the second day I’ve worked out this week. Not proud of it, but just want to keep it real. Im a real person. I experience set backs and lack motivation. Anyways, I haven’t been prepping my food or tracking it this week. I’ve pretty much lived off cereal and pb&j sandwiches this week 😣

Yesterday, @parkerforsyth took me on a date to a Chicago style pizza place and OMG! To die for! 🤤 (If y’all saw my story, you know). Was it high in calories? I don’t doubt it. Did I eat too much? Yep. Do I regret it? Nope. Do I feel guilty about it? Nope. How, you ask? I’ve changed my mindset and learned to have a healthy relationship with food 🙌🏼
.
Well, how did I do that? I learned to think of food as fuel. Instead of feeling guilty about eating a “bad food” (like the old me would’ve), I decided to make it work for me by using it to fuel a super great leg workout! 💪🏼 I’m not obsessing over burning off those extra calories, but they could definitely be put to good use 😊

➡️What you eat before your workout can make all the difference in your performance. The harder you push, the more calories you burn during and after your workout! We suggest eating a small snack made up of a fast-digesting protein and carb within 30-60 minutes prior to a strength training, HIIT or intense workout session. Here are our favorites when it comes to pre workout meals!⠀
•1-2 slices ezekiel toast with 1 TBSP natural almond butter + ¼ banana slices⠀
•1-2 cinnamon rice cakes with 1 TBSP natural peanut butter + ¼ banana slices⠀
•1 whole egg or 2 egg whites scrambled +¼ avocado spread on top of 1 slice toast⠀
•½ cup chopped pineapple or 2 pitted dates⠀
•2 protein energy balls (see picture!)⠀
•Protein shake (keep it simple & easy to digest by mixing with water or unsweetened almond milk + blended fruit)⠀

Back up @westindybarbell and the IN USPA crew was there so I hustled through 4 doubles and a set of 5 for box squat and jumped in on the deadlift party with @garrettfear @klimaxx @newegro @diesel_liftheavy and a few others I need to find and follow on IG. 🔴

🔴 I’m lifting in briefs because I forgot my gym shorts and I blew out my khakis warming up for squats. Hit a super easy 495 and then tried this weight in the video. 585. 45 pounds more than I’ve ever lifted. I obviously didn’t get the lift, but I’m so pleased with how close I got it! Eyes on December for a return to the platform. 🔴

“I’m building a fire and everyday I train, I add more fuel” ~ Mia Hamm -
I wasn’t born with confidence, actually as a child and young adult I had none at all. It seemed the older I got the less I had. I bounced between one extreme to the next. 
From being super fit (competition days) to being super heavy (complete abandonment days) never quite figuring out a balance or sustainable way of life! -

Neither extreme was healthy obviously 🙄 
It’s taken years of work, loving myself, appreciating the things my body can do and adding little bits of fuel to my self-confidence fire🔥 -

It wasn’t easy and I still struggle with negative thoughts from time to time, but I try and replace them with positive and thankful thoughts...in my quest to find balance. -

I reject the feelings of “I’m not good enough” and replace them with....
“I am a bad A$$ now” 😎😎 Feeling confident is a decision, make that decision today and don’t wait half your life like I did!

I've not posted much lately as life is quite busy - I work two jobs and I'm always doing continuous fitness/nutrition study and learning. I'm working towards having my own PT studio but for now I have to juggle everything!
I've received some messages from clients saying they miss my posts which is so lovely ❤️ I share workouts and recipes to motivate and help others - even if it only helps one person it's so worth it to me! Having a little fitness community on here also motivates me to keep going with everything! So send me a message if there's anything in particular you would like to see/learn I'd love to know!
