#23 Hutwe coffee saison
5% ABV | by Siphon
This did not strike me as a very good idea, blending coffee beans and cold coffee with straw blond saison. But it works quite well. It’s a very particular taste. If you’re into quality, acidic coffee this is surprisingly easy to drink. The dryness of the saison works well with the nutty bitterness and subtle fruit taste of the coffee beans. (Warning: coffee beers are quite an overwhelming experience for non coffee drinkers.) Hutwe is the name of the washing station in Congo where the coffee beans included in this brew are processed. Would I drink this in a bar? Probably not. But as a one off this is a pretty fun Ghent brew. Admitted, it’s brewed by @siphonbrewing near Bruges, but one of the two brewers is a Ghentian and it’s brewed in collaboration with @orcoffee , a well known local roaster based just outside of Ghent. I’ll happilly bend the rules a bit for this one. If you want to try it, the Or shop in Ghent will freely give you one if you buy two packets of their Congo beans, the same that are used in Hutwe. Extra tip: pour a cold Hutwe saison, followed by a freshly ground, hot Hutwe pourover coffee. FEEL THE BEANS!
