The New England IPA, when executed correctly, is a hazy juice bomb bursting with tropical and citrus hoppiness. @newbelgium decided to take on the style as part of their #VoodooRanger series. With an open mind, let's see how they did. I purchased this bottle at my local HEB.
Name: Voodoo Ranger Juicy Haze IPA
Brewery: New Belgium Brewing Company, Fort Collins, Colorado
Style: New England IPA
Poured at 46°F from a 12oz bottle (best before 24Jun18) into a Rastal Craft Master Grand glass. Consumed on 26Mar18.
TASTE: A mild sweetness of orange, grapefruit, tangerine, and caramel opens the profile. Mild waves of wheat plus a touch of mango, peach, guava, and cantaloupe follow as the citrus notes grow slightly more bold. Finishes with a mild lemon zest supported by subtle waves of bitter hops, earthy hops, and black pepper traces as the caramel maltiness increases to strong.
NOTE: New Belgium has created a good NEIPA that is available for most people. No need to trade or wait in long lines for this one! The maltiness was a bit too present and the hops could have used a little boost, though. I did like how the bitterness was kept subtle, an aspect that could have ruined the beer if it was any stronger.
