Previous detoxes I’ve participated in (even those led by professionals) always emphasized that it was okay to use a wide range of organic spices to flavor foods.

I ❤️ everything about fresh lemons.. 🍋 but I could just not get the hang of drinking in water every morning!  I even tried drinking it out of a straw and still wasn't pleasant! Was it just me or can anyone else relate!?

You’ve heard the story. Human has health crisis and then discovers it’s probably a good idea to eat well and get some sleep. 
It’s my story too. 🙋‍♀️ I know everyone is on their own journey and sometimes we just need to learn these lessons ourselves.

But if I can help even one person avoid the struggles I went through by making some simple diet and lifestyle changes, then I’ve done my job. 
Nourishing your body is seriously the best feeling in the world, and once you get into the swing of things, it’s actually really easy. 
And no, you don’t have to give up wine and ice cream. 🙊

You know the 80/20 rule? It’s what you do 80% of the time that makes the difference. Stick to whole foods most of the time.

Know your non-negotiables, and stick to those. (For example, if you have an autoimmune condition, this might be gluten. If you’re lactose intolerant, dairy.) Aside from that, enjoy yourself! We’re in this for the long haul. 
Choose wellness now. 🙌🏻

More Beef Facts.  Real food that is farmed organically and/or grass fed is the way we were supposed to eat.  The more I learn the truth about nutrition, real food and how we were meant to eat the more educated I get and the more ticked off I get about what is being taught in our kids’ schools, in society, in medical school etc... AIP DAY 50!!!!!! Happy Sunday everyone! This is my first attempt at making baby back ribs in the Instant Pot and I may say they came out really yummy! Wohoo!.

✨Roasted carrots 🥕 - not shown - the first million I ate while waiting for everything else to be ready - working on that skill 😆.
✨ Roasted Broccoli 🥦.
✨ Baby back ribs with a garlic, cinnamon, clove, turmeric dry rub and finished with a onion, garlic, honey, apple cider and balsamic vinegar sauce.

I was thinking it would miss the peppers 🌶 so often used in traditional BBQ sauces but it came out great!.

people always ask me: how do you get your kids eat so well? •
well, i don’t. not always. not every meal, every day. i take what i can get. my kids love food, and they love plants. they eat raw kale and love when i make beets. but sometimes it’s a pain to get them to eat more than the homemade cashew cheese off their pizza. 🤷🏼‍♀️ •
my greatest advice on this is to just give them options (make a few different veggies for dinner, ask them what they want to eat out of two choices, or things like that!), make food fun (something as simple as “this is mickey mouses favorite dinner” even works sometimes!), use good spices and sauces that your kids like, and do your best to keep meal time positive and happy. •

crust- @simplemills flat bread with garlic, rosemary and thyme 
sauce- my homemade plant based pesto 
toppings: sliced tomato, olives, zucchini, spinach, mushrooms and homemade cashew cheese

I'm not an expert on the topic but I am on a quest to be an expert on my own body. It's possible that before I would have shied away from a post on this but if it could empower just one woman to look a little deeper, ask more questions, & to know their body better I would be over the moon 🌙⠀

We're talking female stuff but if you are a guy in a relationship this could be for you too. First of all, let's let go of the belief that awful PMS, irregular periods, abnormally heavy flows, dramatic moods swings, night sweats, etc are NORMAL. We are taught to believe that they are and that we just need to learn to deal.⠀

When I feel like crap or notice that something feels off, I try to figure out a way to support my body through it. Research & several podcasts have led me to a possible solution that further fuels my notion that #FOODISMEDICINE. All of these problems stem from a hormone imbalance that can be significantly improved by consuming seeds in a specific rotation throughout your cycle. ⠀

Flax & pumpkin seeds for days 1-15 to naturally increase estrogen levels. Estrogen builds up our uterine lining during the follicular phase. Sesame & sunflower seeds for days 15-30 stimulate progesterone production which prepares the uterine lining for implantation (b/c even if you're not ready to get pregnant, making sure that things are working properly now is essential to your future fertility and current well-being).⠀

I could talk longer about this but it's getting long. If you're on birth control for symptoms related to your cycle or for contraceptive I urge you to dig deep and understand what's happening internally. BC is handed out to girls, often unnecessarily. I whipped up these seed balls to ensure I get my flax & pumpkin seeds since we are traveling! I use ground seeds & store them in the fridge to preserve freshness. These are 1/4 cup ground flax, 1/4 cup ground pumpkin seeds, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup almond butter, & 3 dates. Can you tell I threw them together quickly & didn't get too creative on the measurements?

friday night plans: family movie night (frozen) and plantain chip burrito bowls 🍌 
burrito bowls are always a huge hit at the bates house, and adding in plantains just made it even better. here’s how i made them: -slice one plantain with a mandolin to get them SUPER thin -mix in a bowl with @chosenfoods avocado oil, pink salt, pepper, cumin, smoked paprika, and coriander. -lay out on a baking sheet (with a silicone baking mat) make sure that none of them are over lapping -bake for about 20 minutes at 375 until they’re golden and crisp

Cashew butter freezer fudge with the most amazing fudge-like drizzle.

My little ones birthday is this week and I have been hard at work creating something special for her. For those who don’t know our story, my daughter has been the inspiration behind all the positive changes we have made over the years. Her health challenges have helped me to realize the importance of what goes into our body and how it can affect the delicate balance within us. Today we celebrate her health with this dessert made from real food ingredients. She has come so far on her healing journey and continues to inspire me daily. My heart is so blessed..... Just a little Friday motivation. I'm about halfway to my goal weight, I think. I dont know what that weight will feel or look like on my body. With a young toddler and a lengthy list of to-dos each day, I'm all about preparing simple nourishing meals. Leftovers make for the simplest meals and sometimes they even taste better the next day, especially in the case of QUICHE! 😋

Quiche is one of my favorite meals to make for breakfast or dinnner as it comes together quickly, you can change it up in so many different ways (filling and crust wise) and it never gets old. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This morning, my toddler and I shared leftover Broccoli, Onion & Cheddar Quiche. I used @elanaspantry's Savory Pie Crust Recipe from her book "The Gluten Free Almond Flour Cookbook," and subbed out the grapeseed oil for sustainable palm oil. To the sauteed broccoli & onion filling, I added cajun seasoning (of course) and a generous portion of grass fed cheddar. After it came out of the oven, I topped it off with a few slices of raw cheese. Once it cooled down, the little man and I went to town! 🍴

A camping pad was the backdrop of my lunch photo today. Odd for a food photo pic, but packing for a camping “expedition” of sorts was my main focus today. Actually, I am writing this in my tent right now, no not outside, but in my basement. It was raining this morning and I wanted to set up the tent before packing it. The dogs are having great fun going in and out testing the doorways! 
Now, about the BLE Lunch! When I ate this today I actually closed my eyes and thought, “Wow, this tastes so good!” Unadulterated food! What I like about BLE is it gives us permission to enjoy the natural foods as they are without a recipe. It can be time consuming to always think what should I eat today? Simple is okay, too! Pinto beans (4 oz) already cooked (instant pot) and seasoned (cumin & cayenne) from the freezer paired with sautéed red onions and garlic makes a yummy lunch. Steam spinach and add tomatoes to round out the 6 oz of veggies, remembering to weigh after they are cooked. Plums are tasty right now and the purple theme continued with a bowl of blackberries. I don’t know if I have ever eaten most of a container of blackberries! Tasty! In fact, I find BLE is also good at providing a framework for more variety and quantity onto my meals, healthier eating overall!

Some days the adrenal fatigue is far worse than others... Ive been told low GI fruits are the best for it, so Peaches are in and these have been my favorite this season. My favorite refreshing beverage for a warm day! I used to drink soda, and then I learned that sugar wasn't so good for me. So then I drank diet soda. And then I learned that wasn't good for me either.
