It's been 59 years since "the music died." Out in the middle (I kid you not!) of a corn field, along a fence line, I found the Buddy Holly crash site.
I've heard there is a bit more of a footpath now, but back in 2003 when I took this picture, I had to trudge across mudsoaked Earth along a fence where I swear I thought I might see a shotgun. I was walking through somebody's farm, and trying to be respectful. I survived by my shoes were coated in mud.
The records attached to the memorial we're horribly warped. There was trash littered all over the ground. But it was still well worth the risk. A true piece of rock and roll history, making a nice bookend to my travels that started with Tupelo and Graceland. Only one more stop before heading home. - 10 days ago
