The song I’m most excited to play at the Hotel Cafe next Friday is this original called Low Res! On the surface it sounds like it’s about a vibrant, passionate, but ultimately short-lived relationship egged on by one too many whiskey’s. But it’s actually about a circumstance I am slowly learning about more every day inside my own psyche. In today’s world (especially with social media and living in LA) it seems as though everyone is bombarded with so many instances of self-comparison which directly leads to self consciousness or self doubt / judgement. ‘I have to look this way or eat that way or be this kind of person’ etc. Occasionally brought on with a little whiskey (cheers to liquid confidence serving as a great metaphor for songwriting lol) I’m reminded of how almost backwards I feel when I stop limiting myself with those thoughts. We’re taught to think this way from such a young age, that when we stop for a moment, it feels like we’re breaking the rules. Writing Low Res was a reminder to myself of the euphoric and often blurry or pixelated experience of living life without those those self judgements! Here’s my favorite lyrical tidbit:
‘I’ve got no excuse for your love, but there’s so much truth to your touch, what am I to do, girl you’re too much, for this pixelated-faded dream we like to call... Low Resolution’
This. Show. Is. Gonna. Be. Bonkers. Don’t miss it!
