Family. Gratitude. Compassion. Pain. Justice. Education. Peace. Solidarity. Unity. One World. One Dream. Free Tibet.
These are the words that best describe my experience of my time at @sftcanada Action Camp and understanding of what the Tibetan Freedom Movement stands for.
I couldn’t have imagined the depth of learning I’d be granted with as an aspiring ally in the movement and human rights advocate.
I had my ideas of why the Tibetan Freedom Movement was one I needed to stand in solidarity with, but the reason is pretty simple. How could I just stand by when given every right to be able to stand up. The privilege of living in Canada and my whiteness (whether it’s evident or not), holds a responsibility in social justice, especially the Tibetan Freedom Movement. With so many atrocities in the world, we have the power and desire to make a difference but may struggle not knowing if it will even do much or where to even start. I started with the simple reason which is one we can all live by in order to be allies for a free Tibet and a peaceful world, and that is I won’t stand for humans violating humans. Yeah I know it’s disgusting to hear and we forget about it a couple hours later or that we don’t want to be involved in radical activism, but the point is, if you have the privilege to say that something’s wrong, why say nothing at all? The spectrum of solidarity is such a beautiful gift to all us humans. It sucks we have to demand for humans to have human rights even in North America, but the reality is here and we can show up in whatever capacity we can. Just know your capacity is there and it’s being prayed for every day to be put into action, big or small. Of course there is so much wrong in the world, so how can you be expected to give your all to one cause? For me, the Tibetan Freedom Movement isn’t just one of the many social justice movements, it’s THE movement to preserve, share, and embrace peace for the betterment of our planet’s family and the future generations.
