In honor of Father's Day I thought I'd talk about my favorite dads in cinema history, Armand and Albert from "The Bird Cage". Not only are the fabulous role models for young people of all orientations, they are some of the most fleshed out and well developed LGBT characters I've seen. While they may fit traditional roles (Albert behaves in a "feminine" manner while Armand is more in control, there is nothing wrong with that. They are both happy together, and throughout the movie we see the years of love, trust, and faith they have put into their relationship. They care the world for their son and always try to do what is best for him, even if it means hiding who they are.
They both know who they are. While they go along with their son's plans, they never once are ashamed of themselves, nor do they wish to be anyone other than who they are. Neither one is perfect, but together they bring out the best in each other.
