Great information about recovery for long distance runners. I got this email from Hanson’s Coaching Services (I don’t use them, but have subscribed to their emails) about recovery and immediately listened to the podcast. (Screen shots from podcast included)
Much like many other runners who ran Boston on Monday, I am antsy to jump into another marathon so I can really gut it out and attempt my goal marathon pace for 26.2 miles. I mean it is what I have spent the last four months training for!!!!! Truth bomb I came really close to jumping into the OKC marathon next weekend. I almost pulled the trigger and registered yesterday, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Especially after getting this reminder. No, I’m not too terribly tore up from Boston. Compared to my goal pace, this run actually should have been extremely easy for me. But then there are those conditions that happened. 🙄🤦♀️ Ok, back to the good stuff. Though I am not really sore, I still damaged my muscle fibers fighting that hard fight on Monday. Not to mention all the damage I’ve done while training, Jumping into a race in 9 days would be beyond stupid to do and chances are I would not get my PR cuz my legs wouldn’t be up to par yet. The guidelines for a long mileage runner is 3 days completely off (I did 2 at least), and no running for 7-10 Days. Balllllllssss. I was planning on getting some miles in tonight, but going to try to be smarter with my recovery. I think I can make it until Sunday or Monday. I think I can, I think I can. The good news—the bike, elliptical, and swimming are still game. Yessssss!!!!!! Ok, I think I can do this.
Recovery is so overlooked by many, including myself, but I’m pretty damn focused on getting a nice marathon under my belt this spring so I shall be smart!!!! Happy Reading, all!!! #knowledgeisking
