Trying out the yummy Vegan Thai Green Curry with tofu and zoodles at Noodles & Company.  Good stuff. I love pasta but digging these zoodles!

Mmmmm... Vegan cooking and food prep is easy. So many options, so much deliciousness to choose from. No limits really. Protein is a non-issue. And so damn nutritious when approached correctly.

I’d sit here and say “oh leg day’s my favorite!” but then I’d be lying. It takes so much out of me because I put so much into it. But that’s what makes my progress so worth it to me. To see how far I’ve come and how far I’m still able to go.

I had to take current physique update for a new coach and got really bummed about my physique.
It would be easy for me to post one of these photos followed by my stage photo and to compare the difference in fact that’s originally what I was going to post. But I can’t maintain my stage weigh neither should I. And while it’s been much more difficult than expected to deal with weight gain post show and it often feels like I’m going backwards I try to be kind to myself and remind myself that I am doing the best I can, and sometimes a step back can give you better grounding to leap forward. So instead I’m choosing to focus on how much my body has changed in the past year and on how much stronger I feel. So first photo is now 2 months post show and second is last December 2 weeks into prep after doing a small bulk to put on extra muscles. In both photos I am the same weight although they are 7months apart; that really puts time and dedication into perspective.💥

🥗Black Bean Chilli & Crispy Chickpeas rice bowl
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥑This dinner is absolutely delicious and packed with loads of plant based protein and fibre
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ingredients:
1 Carton of Drained Black Beans
1/2 Carton of Chopped Tomatoes
1/2 Tin of Chickpeas
Wild Rice
Avocado
Spinach
Mushrooms
Vegetable stock
Chilli Flakes
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 180 and boil the kettle! Line a baking tray with tin foil and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil - rinse your chickpeas and spread them over the tray. Season with Paprika or Chilli Powder. Bake for around 30 minutes
In a saucepan get the wild rice cooking for a similar length of time
When the rice and chickpeas are nearly ready take a separate saucepan & add the rinsed black beans, chopped tomato and vegetable stock and cook on a low heat
Plate the rice, chickpeas and beans with some baby leaf spinach & add a side of avocado. Delicious 😋

Sorry I’ve been MIA again friends. Life as usual has been busy, and I’ve ben unmotivated to post. But sometimes we just need a break from social media really. 
On Friday I photographed a wedding and really messed up my back. It was completely out and I could barely move. I went to a chiropractor and my amazing massage therapist and it helped a lot! But I am still feeling it. I just can’t believe how out my back was!

I ordered a new camera backpack and I am hoping this helps prevent any future pain! You’d be surprised how much all of that camera gear can affect you. It feels like you were hit by a train!

On a side note. I got my new yoga  mat🧘🏻‍♀️ and I’m sooooo excited for class tonight!

Sadly, there is some truth to this claim, even though, it’s not as dramatic as many people think.

A possible reason for the increased protein requirement is the presence of antinutrients (such as phytic acid and trypsin inhibitors) in plant foods and their high fiber content. These molecules may inhibit the digestive enzymes and interfere with digestion and absorption. -

Turns out this is the week of breakfast posts! 🍳 Today, though, not an egg in sight, instead we're having chocolate for breakfast! 🍫
This ultra decadent "Nutella" pudding is made with avocado to boost the morning with satiating good fats and a luxuriously smooth texture. I added chickpeas for a protein boost and then blended it all with dark cocoa powder, soy milk, salt, stevia, vanilla and a touch of agave. Then I topped it with roasted hazelnuts, hemp seeds and cacao nibs because there wasn't enough chocolate! Combined, this is a completely plant-based 🌱, rich pudding that ticks NEARLY all of my pre-workout nutritional needs:
* A hit of protein
* Good fats
BUT, as amazing as it is to eat pudding for breakfast, it doesn't quite give me every macro I need. What do you think I made on the side to give me the carb boost to get through my upper body workout today?

Have you ever heard that the essential amino acids lysine and sulfur-containing amino acids; methionine and cysteine, are the limiting amino acids for vegans?

This is also true for vegan lifter who want to grow muscle. Animal protein sources contain nearly the amount of these amino acids as the human muscle does. 
__
However, not all plant-protein sources do.
__
Legumes, such as pea protein, soy products and lentils, contain nearly the amount of lysine that animal protein does. 
__
However, these foods are poor sources of sulfur-containing amino acids.
__
In contrast, protein from seeds and cereal grains has nearly the amount of sulfur-containing amino acids as animal protein. However, these foods are low in lysine.
__
Therefore it is crucial not only getting enough protein when following a plant-based diet, but also paying particular attention to the right combination of protein sources to guarantee an adequate supply of all amino acids. 
__
As a rule of thumb for vegan lifters: consume 50% protein coming from legumes, 25% protein coming from seeds and 25% coming from grains AND get enough protein in TOTAL.
__
Based on my calculations, vegans should get at least 2.4 g protein per kg per day (or 1.1 g per lb) to optimally support muscle gains.
__
However, if you supplement with 1-3 g lysine every day, your protein requirement decreases to 2.1 g per kg per day (or 0.95 g per lb). ___
The amount of lysine supplementation depends on your body weight; a petite 45 kg /100 lbs bikini athlete would require 1 g and a big 136 kg / 300 lbs powerlifter would require 3 g.

Use this formula to calculate the lysine amount you need: GRAMS LYSINE = 0.0221 x body weight (in kg) – 0.0046

👍🏻Happy with my current weight so my next test is to enter a cutting phase and bring some of that hard work to the surface. My body fat is sitting at around 16/17% and I’m aiming to get that down towards 10%

EDIT- holy shit I just realized that 160 lbs was relatively easy compared to two days ago. I think reasons could be 1) first time taking preworkout (s/o to @nicoleabea) 2) I was angry today and needed to lift something heavy 3) it was in the afternoon compared to late at night??? 😧😧😧 #2daytransformation #lol .

First time incorporating weighted dips in a while so we kept things slightly moderate, focusing on the stretch.  Worked up to 70lbs on the last set x 5-6 reps. Typically my body responds best to good old fashion heavy compounds, so after slightly deloading the past two weeks we started throwing in weighted pullups, weighted dips, heavy, heavy bench presses, and either a heavy squat/deadlift day. One of the biggest things I've learned from previous shows is to not get too cute with the workouts until 10-14days out. At that point, I'll get more to a machine and isolation based workout split.
