I saw a post on @diaryofanaijagirl asking if Oprah would have been she is if she had a husband and a child(ren). Some comments said yes, while others disagreed. Then someone referenced Serena Williams losing her mojo since marriage and childbirth.
In my opinion, marriage is a partnership. You don’t go into a partnership without first being strong enough to stand and grow. Before marriage, build yourself. Invest in people and finance. Stay focused. Make Giving Back a part of your personality and when it’s time to choose, pick someone that appreciates and accepts this and the sacrifices you would make. Oprah and others have made themselves immortal by giving more than they take. It’s the law of the universe.
That said, childbirth is no piece of cake (calories and all. Lol). It takes a woman at least 2 years to really bounce back. Don’t let social media and it’s #snapback stories fool you. There’s a lot involved in motherhood. And it takes time before you feel ready to take on the world full on steam again. (Mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually). This is why a great team is important. Behind you, beside you, in the corners, cheering you on, recognising and celebrating every small and big win.
