"It is late and I'm awake and exhausted and thinking about all there is still to be done to bring Distracted to the stage on Friday... and all the emotional hurt and growth people I care about have put themselves through these last 8 weeks because I asked them to help me tell a story people need to hear and some will recognize. I am humbled by the collaborative effort of a theatrical production. You cannot do it alone, you need people who will do hard scary stuff with you for hours at a time. Its big for me and I have that in this cast and crew. I am grateful to them and proud of them and I hope you will come see our show. This weekend and next at MT Pockets."

"I've committed myself to a role like no other I have ever played. This character and this play embody my life. Someone asked me, "So how does it feel playing yourself?" It's harder than anything I've done. I am mentally and physically exhausted and I want to curl up in a ball and cry. It's real hard to look at myself in the mirror with every line I say. It's even harder to imagine standing in front of an audience and being completely vulnerable because these words are not just lines from a play... they are my fears, they are my struggles... this is my life. I love you Nicki, but wow... I wasn't prepared for the intense therapy.
With all that said, I regret nothing. I will never regret being given a chance to grow as a person, and to let go of all these emotions that I've buried for many years. Here's to the theatre, to my best friend and therapist Nicki Davis, and to a great show.... See you at the theatre." -Tawnya Drake (Mama in Distracted)

This Friday, August 17, I'm 2.5 years sober (and tobacco free) and it's also opening night of the M. T. Pockets Theatre Company play "Distracted" by Lisa Loomer -- I am so grateful to have two roles in this hilarious, powerful production: Dr. Zavala and Dr. Broder.

I've always wanted to be in a play, and I FINALLY felt mentally and physically healthy enough to walk into a room of strangers and audition. I've felt so welcomed and appreciated by the cast and crew throughout all of the hard work for "Distracted." Summon the courage and strength to take action steps toward your long-awaited dreams, especially if they freak you out a lot, because the soul rewards can be immense.

I'm so grateful for my strange and beautiful path, for all of the mistakes I made, the wisdom I've gained, and the bridges I burned because they've ALL led me to THIS moment: to build better bridges, form healthier friendships, and construct a way more fulfilling life. I never would have thought this is where I'd be in life at 37 years old, but it's also exactly where I want to be: Sober, feeling it all, and having a blast living life on MY OWN timeline.

I dedicate my performance in this play to my friend and Dogs Without Horses bandmate Matt Coffman, who lived with ADD. You are dearly missed always.

"Morgan Riley is an absolute delight to work with! She may only be in high school, but this girl has the maturity, drive, and talent that will for sure help her go far in this life. Working with Morgan has given me hope for the future of theatre. I know it will never die out as long as there are people like her bringing a bright light to the stage. Come see her play Natalie in 'Distracted' opening this Friday!" -Tawnya Drake (Mama)

Opening August 17 at M. T. Pockets... Lisa Loomer's "Distracted." What’s wrong with 9-year-old Jesse? His teacher says it’s ADD, his Dad says he’s just a boy, and his Mom is on a quest for answers.
Distracted is a hilarious and poignant look at the challenges of modern family life. As we follow Jesse’s Mom through meetings with psychologists, homeopaths and environmental physicians, both actors and audience members are forced to grapple with the question: Are we so tuned in to our 24/7 information-rich world that we’ve tuned out what really matters?

"We talk about certain art as being “important.” And when we’re told we should see something “important,” we assume it’ll be insufferably boring. But what Paula Vogel gives us with How I Learned to Drive is a piece of theatre that is both vitally important and utterly captivating.

This play won the Pulitzer Prize twenty years ago, but I can't think of a better time for it to be revived than in the midst of the #MeToo movement, when we're finally starting to have these long overdue conversations about exploitation and abuses of power.

A lot of the conversation around those topics sits in the extremes, in the black-and-white. But How I Learned to Drive is firmly rooted in the grey areas. And that's what makes it challenging, riveting, brilliant theatre. That's what makes it "important." You can catch our final three performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8pm at M. T. Pockets Theatre Company." - Nora Perone (Lil' Bit)

"Joy is a joy to work with! *ba dum, tsss!* She finds unexpected ways to bring fun and quirkiness into a character. She also is very supportive of her fellow castmates, and offers encouragement when they need it. I'm glad to be in another show with Joy! -Adam Messenger (Greek Chrous)

"Chris Adducchio is playing the widest range of roles of anyone in the show— from a raunchy old grandmother to a vulnerable pre-teen girl, and everything in-between. She is directly responsible for the most hilarious moments of the show and also the most heartbreaking ones, and she commits 110% to every bit of it. Chris is a regular on the M.T. Pockets stage, and she brings years of experience to this role as well as her natural vibrancy, comic timing, and a huge amount of heart. Don’t miss her in How I Learned to Drive, opening July 20th!" - Nora Perone (Lil Bit)

"I'm in rehearsal right now for HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE. We open this week Friday, July 20. This play won a Pulitzer Prize, and the script and the message are very, very powerful. Fortunately, the strong characterizations meet the challenge -- the molestation is implied, never graphic, and it is drama at its best. I have been posting photos, but I want to personally invite you to come to this show. You will not leave it unaffected. Nora Perone, Jim Stacy, Joy Carr, Adam Messenger and I invite you to join us July 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 at 8pm and July 22 at 2pm at M. T. Pockets Theatre in Morgantown. I hope to see you at the theatre."

"This play is why live theater matters. It is about enabling cyclical abuse, why we shouldn't always retreat into "family is family" or "that's just how guys are", or how we turn the other way when we should look unflinchingly at what is happening. Doesn't that sound like fun?!?! But you know what else? You're going to laugh! I mean really laugh. You're going to love and hate that you're laughing, but you're definitely going to laugh! And you're going to walk away thinking "Wow." Come and see why live theater matters. Come and watch us PLAY.

Note: It is definitely not child-friendly. But don't stay away because you're afraid you will see something you cannot "unsee." We're very good at getting the point across without crossing the line! (Jim Stacy, on the other hand, might already be a little emotionally scarred!)" -Joy Carr Furbee (Female Greek Chorus)

"In the world of community theatre, Nora Perone is what I would refer to as a “ringer.” You know that woman in your company softball league who can suspiciously pitch a ball 70 miles per hour underhanded? The guy in intramural basketball who shoots 50% from three point range, and can dunk with either hand? Those are all ringers. Point is, you need to come see this ringer before she goes back to the big leagues. The rest of the team ain’t too shabby, either. 😎"
