WHAT'S YOUR TRIGGER ➜ I just returned home from vacation, and believe it or not, vacation is not my trigger. I’m usually with my husband and three young kids, and keeping up energy across time zones, with different sleeping schedules, requires me to stick closely to Whole30 compliant foods (with some leeway for restaurant preparations and a few cocktails spread out over the week). —
The day after vacation, however, that’s my trigger. It’s taken me many fails to identify this, but I think it has to do with a few things:
—
👊🏽I’m home alone after a lot of together time, and I can justify that non-compliant food because “I deserve it” for having survived vacation 😉⠀
👊🏽I’m usually returning home to an empty fridge/pantry, and I don’t have any of my usual meal prep done. This leads to raiding the freezer for that banana bread that I stashed a few weeks ago.
👊🏽The stress of reentry. My “catch-up” list for work, home, and life in general is long. I don’t want to deal with that, I’d rather just eat this chocolate chip cookie 🍪
—
With the help of Food Freedom Forever (Chapter 9), I’ve identified that trigger and last night I made a plan to prevent that headfirst plunge into the sweets. I have scheduled time today to go to the grocery store, to meal prep, and to make an easy, delicious Whole30 meal to enjoy tonight. (I’ve got my eye on @physicalkitchness Sheet-pan salmon with Dijon cream sauce).
—
I (gratefully🙏) have a @truefare breakfast ready to hold me over until I can get to the store. And I’m publicly sharing my trigger to keep myself accountable. I’ll let you know how all this works🤞
—
Back to you, what’s your trigger? Awareness is the first step. So glad to have you with me on this journey 😊 - Whole30 Coach @whole30coachme —

This salad though 😍 @nocrumbsleft is taking over @whole30recipes this week, and choosing our favorite of her Whole30 dishes was a tough thing to do! But in the end, we can’t stop drooling over her famous salads, like this Pepper Steak Salad with Creamy Horseradish Dressing. Hop over to @whole30recipes to snag the full recipe. 🥗

"I’m 63, a five-year breast cancer survivor, four years post treatment which included thyroid removal. I'm retired from a job I loved as a speech therapist for young children with Autism and their families. And, I'm a Mom of two precious grown adults with one amazing granddaughter.
—
During my treatment, I sought the help of an M.D. who specializes in functional medicine. The doctor recommended Paleo eating as a way to battle inflammation, and to stay as healthy as possible.
—
When I began that Paleo journey, I was very familiar with the Whole30 program, but had tried and failed twice before to complete one. I ate Paleo sometimes, but my sugar dragon would often win, and many times that battle left me with depression and anxiety.
—
In January, I realized how I had not fully committed the two previous tries. I hadn’t done the homework or the meal prep that was recommended. So, I found Whole30 Certified Coach Courtney of @coffeecarrotsandcurls and signed up to do a Whole30 with her.
—
Having the guidance of a Certified Coach, who both empathized with me and encouraged me, gave me knowledge and confidence. I COMMITTED. 31 days later, I realize that my sugar cravings are gone, my life is more balanced, I’ve lost weight, I have very little joint pain, and I feel renewed and encouraged! —
I know the road ahead of me will take continued courage, but Whole30 has given me the tools I need to find a way to be successful. I am confident, careful, and optimistic about my food choices for my health, and know I can turn to the Whole30 community for help when I need it. Cancer taught me to practice daily gratitude, Whole 30 taught me to live it. I am very changed by this experience, Thank you!" - @jvandeelen

This is Joni's experience, in her own words. The Whole30 is not a medical diagnostic tool nor a replacement for working with a qualified health practitioner. Speak with your doctor before beginning any new dietary or lifestyle program. Your results may vary.

Winning a medal for dish washing is a given, but what other Whole30 event would get you up on that podium?

What’s one section or passage that had you saying, “THIS. EXACTLY THIS.”
What practice, habit or strategy from the book will you implement into your routine?

Any breastfeeding or pregnant (or both!) mamas out there looking for easy options to feed yourself? We get it, mama! Increasing your intake of healthy fats may help you to stay full longer and help you fit in more calories, so you may be tempted to whip up some fat bombs to keep on hand. Before you do, read this post from @melissa_hartwig on why sweet fat bombs are not the best option during your #BreastfeedingWhole30.

#TBT to when @melissa_hartwig taught me how to do a proper #crotchshot during her #FoodFreedomForever book tour. Basically a highlight of my life.⠀
—⠀
Also, are you reading Food Freedom Forever this month? The @Whole30 crew is book clubbing it this month and I’ve been loving reading people’s thoughts on the book and their food freedom. FFF was the catalyst I needed to really help me understand and navigate what I wanted and needed out of my food freedom. No one’s food freedom looks the same, and I won’t tell you what I did will work for you. I believe it’s a personal journey that you need to be willing to work on everyday. Day by day it will get a bit easier, but that doesn’t mean when an old habit creeps back in you start to feel shame or guilt. This is when you take the time to evaluate and reassess. It’s something I had to keep reminding myself time after time.⠀
—⠀
Food freedom to me is eating what makes me feel best as much as possible, but also being okay with having that piece of chocolate or having a glass of wine while catching up with my girlfriends. Food freedom to me is politely declining something I don’t deem “worth it” and moving on. Remember, if you don’t make it a big deal, it won’t be a big deal. Food freedom to me is changing the narrative from “I can’t have it” to “I don’t want it.” If I do, then I will. Food freedom to me is no longer turning to food for emotional comfort. Food will not make my stress and anxiety go away. It didn’t in the past, and it won’t now. This is MY food freedom, and I work on it everyday. What is YOUR food freedom? #myfoodfreedom - @dollyswholelife
